Turbochargers and Superchargers are in essence air compressors that help increase the "volumetric efficency" of the engine by forcing more air into the combustion chamber to better help combustion. Superchargers are usually belt/gear driven while Turbochargers are driven by exhaust gases. Superchargers' tend to provide good low end torque because of the way they operate, the also make away with the annoyances associated with turbos, such as lag, although the tradeoff is a noisier component with added parasitic drag on the engine itself.
There's some posts in the Mechanical/Technical section regarding the two, have a once over and you should be alright.
