thanks for the reply..since im a new user on this website it sounds quite impossible for me to read all forum discussions..will u kindly highlight the main reasons..in addition as u mentioned that we need supporters for our first national car "revo" how can we get such supporters when people can easily buy "imported" (used)cars at low prices..·and as we know that in Pakistan, the second-hand market is heavily concentrated because of lower purchasing power in many of the buyer segments, which therefore, can afford older cars only. this can be proved by the recent findings ...thats is,“The record car sales figure of 42,342 in 2003-04 means that only one in 3,333 persons in the country bought a new car last year.” and for ur example i believe we cant compare pak with devloped countries like japan or korea because of their strong socio-economic environment..
The topic about why Pakistani do not like buying Pakistani car REVO has been debated heavily in the past. Many people think its due to lack of quality of REVO. But I disagree, as Revo shares similar parts that all the other competing cars in its segment share. Mehran and Revo are both 70% indiginized, the only main difference being the engine. Here too, Revo has a better engine with latest design, (i.e. Electronic Fuel Injection) which is Chip controlled, and precisely gives right amount of Fuel Air mixture to the engine for combustion, versus, mehran's old engine based old suzuki car from 1970s. Revo uses the engine from China's Wuling Company, which is the largest engine maker in China, also supplying engines for GM, and other international brands operating in China.
Looks wise, Revo is much better and upto date, (from the year 2005), while Mehran is 1987-88 design, almost 20 years older.
About yout auto sales figures, those are outdates. Latest figures for Cars sold in Pakistan between, 140,000 to 150,000 in 2004-2005 fiscal year, against the demand of almost 200,000 cars. When you car ownership, you are taking about 1 in 1,000 buys a Brand New car in Pakistan. But car ownership is much higher, since secondary market retains about 4 million cars in Pakistan, My figures are old, it may have increase now, so.. thats about roughly 1 in 40 people in Pakistan have an automobile... But 4 million figure includes everything that has atleast 4 wheels, Car, pickups, vans, wagons, trucks, buses. So, aside from trucks and buses, which do not exceed more than 100,000. The figure 4 million is not too bad for a third world country. The New Auto sales will continue to increase if the government maintains steady policies and encourages the current auto assemblers to invest more and not make things harsh for them. Its the New Car dealerships that are causing more problem to for the common man, than the auto makers. We should not just jump on auto assembler/manufacturers, they are atleast doing something which is better than nothing, in terms of proving jobs and giving boost to local economy. The Auto Dealers, if allowed to import used cars, will only benefit few hundred people down the road in terms of employment, while Auto assembling/manufacturing gives employment to 200,000 diretly and millions more thru venders, etc.... down the line
