LAHORE: The Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts & Accessories Manufacturers (PAAPAM) has expressed deep concern over unscheduled load-shedding of electricity which is causing heavy losses to the auto industry.
PAAPAM Chairman Malik Muhammad Aslam here on Thursday said that load-shedding of electricity is making it almost impossible for auto parts’ manufacturing units to meet local and export orders. He said that non-availability of electricity was forcing the industrialists to close their units subsequently causing heavy loss to the national exchequer and increase in unemployment.
The chairman requested the President of Pakistan, Caretaker Prime Minister and Federal Minister of Water and Power to restore the electricity supply. He has also asked WAPDA and LESCO authorities to announce the schedule of load-shedding for industry particularly for auto industry to make proper production as per the schedule by the units.
Meanwhile, a delegation of Pakistan Industrial & Traders Association Front (PIAF) has met with the PIAF Chairman Mian Abu Zar Shad here in Kot Lakhpath Industrial Estate in which the industrialists of the Estate has decided to close all the industrial units.
Head of delegation Ahsan Mehmood Butt told the worst situation of electricity and gas load-shedding in the industrial estate. He said that some industrialists had already closed their units one week ago due to utilities load-shedding.
Later, PIAF chairman expressed concern on closure of industrial units due to interrupted supply of Sui gas and electricity. He was of the view that closure of industrial units will spawn unemployment in the country which disturbs law and order situation in the country.
He added that riots which started all over the country after the assassination of Benazir Bhutto cause over one-billion-rupees loss to national exchequer and now load-shedding is adding fuel to fire. He urged the government to ensure smooth supply of utilities to all the industrial units of the country.
