Nice to see Dewan Farooq's Modern Assembling facility with Robots equipment. This shows that they are determined to have a quality product made in Pakistan. At the same time, they should concentrate on bringing the price to a level that an average Pakistani can afford. It will take time for average Pakistani to spend 22 Lakh on a car, as they have introduced Sonata with this price tag. Actually in US, it cost $22,000 to $23,000 or about 12 to 14 Lakh Pakistani Rupees. Why are they pricing it at almost $35,000 range, that is the price of New Lexus, IS/ES, or BMW 3 series of even Mercedez C Class in US. I am sure Hyundai Sonata must be a good car, but not as good as a Luxury car like a Mercedez or Lexus, to be priced this high. May be because they are are following the trend of Corolla, and Civic which are also priced in Pak, at twice the Average International Market price. The reason why Government slaps a high tarrif is, to protect the local from being exploited, and provide them a cheap car, which is locally made. In this case, this whole system of Tarrifs on CKD, and CBU has made the prices of cars in Pakistan, even locally assembled, exhorbitant.
Something needs to be done about correct pricing of vehicles in Pakistan. Specially with WTOs rules soon to be enforced all over the world. All the countries have to bring down trade barriers to imports, in order to export their own goods to other countries. It will be much like a Whole World as a one giant country, trading within states freely. Pakistan needs to diversify its Engineering sector fast to be able to survive in this upcomming battle of te Industrial states, specially those that are right on our border.
