What is the function of the button(usually of silver colour) on the shift lever of automatic cars?Is it only used to disengage the transmission from P mode or we have to press it every time we shift the lever?
(I am not asking about O/D.)
Thanks.
what i have seen is a red button. this is used for disengaging it from P to any gear. Normally it is on the gear console and not on the lever. if u can take a pic that would help. regards
have u ever imagine what would it be like if you put an auto car in reverse gear while driving fore wards???

Aggree with qwerty and i dont knw it is used while driving or not but i do use it for precaution there is nothing bad in usinf it and normally while driving manual car u dont change gear so i wud suggest use it
one should only use it to park or reversing an auto car...regards
It is the megaboost button. When you are racing a CD70, press this button to engage quad turbos, it doesn't matter if you have them or not. It is all mental.
@qwerty
yeah man something will happen.. u will hear a noise as if someone is murdering the aunty next door and you will strip your gearbox of all cogs!
