KARACHI: The local manufacturers Indus Motor Company, Pak Suzuki and Honda are not inline with their global partners to recall vehicles.
The Toyota vehicles in Pakistan are not affected, as the design for the said components is different for the whole Asian region; so there has been no recall from these regions at all. In Pakistan, we have received no complaints from the customers regarding any such issues said Indus Motor Company spokesperson Raza Ansari.
The Indus Motor Company (IMC) is a joint venture between the House of Habib, Toyota Motor Corporation Japan (TMC), and Toyota Tsusho Corporation Japan (TTC) for assembling, progressive manufacturing and marketing of Toyota vehicles in Pakistan.
The IMC spokesperson said that Toyota being a global company did receive complaints from the US market about faulty accelerator pedals and breaking mechanism. Being a responsible company, Toyota has recalled a total of 8.5 million vehicles from the US, Europe, parts of China, Taiwan and some from the GCC countries.
He added that the reason behind the recall in the countries closer to Pakistan, like GCC and China is that the vehicles were either imported directly from the USA or had the same specifications of the vehicles as those in the USA. The overall customer perception of the Company has suffered of course, but we are very sure that we will overcome this challenge very soon as we are globally taking it as an impetus to go the extra mile in keeping our customers satisfied spokesperson concluded.
Globally auto industry is in bad conditions and companies are struggling to lure buyers back to showrooms.
The news of Toyota recalling its 8.5 million faulty vehicles created uproar the world over; Honda recently also announced to recall its faulty vehicles and another Indian carmaker Maruti Suzuki India, 54 per cent owned by Japan’s Suzuki Motor, is recalling 100,000 of its A-Star hatchbacks, which might have fuel tank leakage issue according to media reports.
The Pak Suzuki spokesperson Shafique Sheikh said, “we at Pak Suzuki are not producing ‘A-Star’, therefore this recall is not applicable to us. In case such doubts will arise, we will announce a recall in accordance with SMC’s direction and/or information.” However local manufacturers are not facing any such issues so far. In fact this issue is not pertaining with any of the local manufacturer and so far no consumer complaint has been received regarding any manufacturing fault, he said.
