ISLAMABAD: The four officials of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) purchased used cars of the board at a throwaway price during 2003-04. According to information provided to the National Assembly on Friday, the officials who purchased the used cars of the board included former PCB chairman Tauqir Zia, ex-treasurer Muhammad Naeem, general manager finance Mushtaq Ahmed and general manager logistics Asad Mustafa.
Tauqir Zia purchased Honda City (model 2000), bearing registration number LXR 1983, on December 31, 2003 for Rs 339,840. The board had purchased the same car for Rs 750,000 on January 6, 2000. Muhammad Naeem also received the Honda City (model 2000), bearing registration number LXS 275, against Rs 439,992. The board had purchased the said car on October 27, 2000 for Rs 675,000.
Mushtaq Ahmed purchased Suzuki Margalla (model 1997), bearing registration number LXE 2464, for Rs 113,183. The board had bought the same car on October 17, 97 for Rs 692,483. Asad Mustafa purchased a Toyota Corolla (model 1996), bearing registration number LXE 5253 for Rs 76,942 in 2004, while the board had purchased the same car for Rs 769,425 in 1996.
The board notification regarding the purchase of the used cars to its officials reads “As a policy, motor vehicles will be disposed off after being in use for five years. However, an official of the PCB will be entitled to acquire motor vehicle under his use at book value subject to his completion of three years of continuous service, if honourary, and five years of service if in employment.”
