Sati was again practiced in certain parts of india not the whole of india.It was a socio-economic rule of a patriarchal society.The husband worried about his honor so they let the woman burn and it was practiced heavily during the islamic invasion of india when the wives of the hindu kings burn themselves after their death to protect the family honor of their society.
Shariah is a very well laid system of islamic conduct.In islam it is said that it is eternal and applicable in any time but there is no such thing in hinduism.(I am just comparing the two and not saying one is good or bad) If you find one reference of sati in a hindu text then you will find several other counter-claims in others.
Why do you do Vipassana meditation to achieve nirvana when you got idols to worship? please answer...We bow our heads towards Allah only....
And not only that we do yoga,meditation and all kinds of stuffs . Murti puja according to hinduism is a practise which helps in concentrating mind and devotion towards god.You may or may not do it.There is no compulsion.
The essential goal is to realize the unity of me(atman) to brahman(god in your language).And there is lot more philosophy behind but it can't be explained in a post.
