mean how can one chk car is over heating wihtout lookin at needle???

If u have an Ohm Meter then you can measure the resistance of the thermistor (the temp. sensor) and so using the graph could know the coolant temp.

Mr. fas133 has granted both of your wishes. My way of checking the temp gauge
1. turn on the ignition switch (no need to start the engine)
2. remove the coolant temp sensor wire and ground (Connect to chassis) it firmly.
3. get in the car and watch the temp needle rise it should get to H in few seconds.

1. if it doesnt your gauge is not working properly and you may need to calculate the adjusted value. e.g if the needle stops at half way then consider that point as H and now the quarter will be the half mark.

2. if the temp needle goes to H then the gauge is Ok check the sensor as per the instructions posted by Fas133.

2,12,554km on the odo when the rocker arms were changed.
Its running with the same engine, never overhauled never done anything with it.

But Khyber's odometer doesn't have the "lac" digit. Its only upto 99,999 Km. I don't know why Suzuki people designed it like that. They were not expecting their car to go above 1 lac Kms?

I checked the alternator with a multimeter and found 14V DC while the engine running

and then I switched the multimeter to AC and then I got 15V AC.

what does this mean ?

one more thing my multimeter is showing 13V (AC) from stand alone battery, is that normal or the meter is acting funny.

Don't Worry it is normal when using an analog Multimeter because basically it is a Galvanometer and all the values are converted in DC current before feeding to the main coil of the meter.
Besides, definitely u got a very good and reliable meter.

i checked with my DMM the ac volts on two different standalone car batteries, and on 1.5v clock batteries too, they all show differing amounts of AC voltage! why would that be?

some rippling voltage maybe - causing a little AC reading

by the pictures Im looking at the needle is at 0.7V AC or 3.1V AC - the 0.7 is perfectly normal in an alternator

btw wen i overhauled the engine,i got tht new too so it wont b in need of overhaul tht soon..its router comes back real smooth n quick wen moved anti-clock wise..

i mean the thing tht has digits of speed n temp n fuel gauge??

Hello Pakwheelers,

Today i went for tuning and adjusting fuel settings on CNG & patrol. the engine was missing on patrol and on CNG/patrol when i used to start the car in morning it used to vibrate a lot and the strokes of engines had a significant gap, but after some time the RPM used to stable.

I told this to a mechanic & he adjusted, CNG settings, Patrol settings, and Tappet settings.

when i came home after driving it 6.kms, the exhaust was emitting white smoke. At that time i thought may be it is because of winter. But i was worried, as this smoke was not present before.

When i started it after 2 hours, the engine refused to start, and felt like it is jammed.

I'm worried, as i think the engine is seized,
Plz help, what should i do,

I have although asked my friend who is mechanic to visit me early in morning.

Help guyz.

Any previous repair or overhaul history if available will be helpful in diagnosis.

For now, check condition of oil on the dip stick and under the tappet cover, coolant in the radiator, fan belt etc

if OK then Remove the distributor cap, put the car in reverse gear while looking at the rotor (Hood open) push the car. the rotor should rotate with movement of the car. if its not then the timing belt is gone.

If OK then check the battery or replacing with a good test battery from a friend or other car.

if the above is OK check the self starter motor by removing spark plugs and cranking the engine.

if OK, connect every thing back, if still the engine is resisting to start then Two or more tappets are extra loose.
