Easiest thing to do if one doesn't have any macro lens is to use a zoom lens inverted or any lens inverted.
This is a bit tricky. In most cases you won't have double support to fix lens and camera separately so u will have to hold it together. You need to find the focus point manually by moving the cam and inverted lens together back n forth.
Here is a quick example i did with my Canon EF-S 55-250mm:
Lens mounted on cam and at 250mm with minimum possible distance from the subject:

Inverted lens hand-held with cam and focus ring at minimum distance:

Inverted lens hand-held with cam and focus ring at maximum distance:

Second option can be to buy macro tubes or convertors which are much cheaper than dedicated macro lenses.
I use Raynox DCR-250 for this purpose which is a $60 convertor.
