Visibility of Flickr linked pics on PTCL Internet

I just faced this problem in my travel thread that people could not see flickr linked pics in the thread.

And after doing some research, it apparently seems like PTCL internet users are unable to see the flickr images whether linked somewhere or on flickr website.

I want confirmation from people loading pics here from flickr in Pakistan.

I found a solution dont know if it works. here it is

So it [I]could[/I]  be that the blocking mechanism in Pakistan is similar (or same) as the  blocking that is used from time to time or by certain ISPs in Mainland  China.

In that case editing the "hosts" file can help for Win XP users.

The "hosts" file is located in this directory:

\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\

You need administrator rights on your computer to edit and save it.

In it's original state the "hosts" file looks like this:

[I][INDENT]# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.

This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.

This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each

entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should

be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.

The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one

space.

Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual

lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.

For example:

102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server

38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost[/INDENT][/I]

Open the file with a text editor (E.g. Windows Notepad).
Do not use a word processor like WinWord.
Add the following lines below "127.0.0.1 localhost":

Here's from flickr help page:

If you suddenly notice that images from Flickr are broken in your browser or they are just not loading while the page does, it's probably one of a few causes:

• Images from our image servers (staticflickr.com, farm1.staticflickr.com or subsequent farms) have accidentally been blocked in your browser
• A firewall (either software and hardware based) is keeping them out
• You are viewing from a network that blocks images from our server (like a company or school)

In most cases, the first one covers it, especially for Firefox users. If you are using Firefox, check to be sure the Flickr servers are not in your block list. You can get to that option here:
Windows:
Tools menu > Options > Content > Load Images Automatically > Exceptions
OS X:
Firefox menu > Preferences > Content > Load images automatically > Exceptions
You can also try to right click from your mouse (ctrl-click on a Mac) an empty image element, and look to see if the option to 'Block images from *.staticflickr.com' is selected, substituting the * for one of the host server names mentioned above. If so, deselect it.
If that didn't take care of it, first try clearing your browser cache (instructions). If that didn't do it, point your browser to our test page so you know exactly what of our resources doesn't load for you. Also do try using a second browser to test it out. If you can see images in the second browser, the first one might just need to be restarted to reset it. Firefox users can also try turning off add ons they have installed; some add-ons (like ad blocking extensions) may block images. On the browser menu: Tools > Add-ons. The Mozilla Firefox site also has a comprehensive troubleshooting guide which can be very useful when dealing with browser add on and profile problems.
If you cannot see images in the second browser either, perhaps it's a firewall issue. But, try a reboot of your system before contacting your network administrator/help desk, as sometimes mysterious network gremlins can zap image loading and make you think all your images have vanished. If you use a home firewall, either software or hardware based, check to make sure that any updates done to them did not cause any change in settings. Try rebooting your router as well.

My recently uploaded images are broken but I can see the older images just fine. Yesterday I wasn't even able to load my flickr profile picture.

it worked for me with the following modifications to the host file.....but still its not working perfectly like when i click on 'you' and then 'photostream' tou its doesnt direct me there and instead i manually type the link and move about flickr..

it is not only with flickr - it is with all applications linked to yahoo accounts. did any of you noticed that sending an email with attachment from yahoo account is not possible since last week. and when you log out from yahoo mail account page ends with server time out -

flickr is working fine now. all the problems i previously faced are resolved now atleast at my end....
