    Assalam O Alaikum!

Prius is an excellent car! when you went for inspection, the mechanic might have messed something. Efficiency depends on power plugs very much. most probably he changed the imported plugs with local ones or held them losely. Screw him if he changed the orignal japanese ones like most mechanics do!!

what was the urge for throttle body wash and plug wash? usually the platinum or iridium plugs installed are good for 100,000 kms.

Mechanics here used to rob people by their so called,'preventive maintainance'.. They open up the carb, new pilag, paaint,etc.. This happened every 10k kms. Now that we have efi engines in all cars, they open up the thraatal baady at every oil change to keep robbing people..

Prius comes with iridium plugs and you DONT clean them, you replace them once they've seen their useful life. Cleaning them damages the tip so you need to get a new set of plugs.

I have a different take on your problem. The Prius is a Hybrid. It runs on batteries until the car reaches about 60km/h and then switches over to the engine. I think your car is only running on engine, or it is switching over to the engine drive way too early. The Prius is a 1500cc car so if it ran on engine drive 100% of the time you would expect it to turn in a 14-15km/l average. Just my 2c worth.

Regardless if it s a 1500 or 1800, 12-15 km/l is what you get if your car was NOT a hybrid. The 3gen Prius is advertised to return a fuel average of 25km/l. It makes no sense if your car is operating normally between battery and engine and you are still getting 12-15km/l. That would mean that your engine is consuming petrol at the rate of 4-7 km/l . If as you say, you can get your car to go on battery up to 150Km/h then how come the fuel average is dropped. When it is on 100% battery, the engine is off right? so zero fuel consumed right? In my post, what I was pointing out is that you have to check if your car is switching over from battery drive to engine drive the same way it did before the service/check-up. It is possible that the mechanic at Toyota has by mistake disturbed the system that senses when to switch over. Cleaning plugs etc should not have such a drastic effect on fuel consumption. Honda Civic hybrid is different. Both engine and motor are running 100% of the time. The motor just helps the engine. So playing around with the Honda's air mass meter/plugs/other stuff will impact fuel economy differently (since it runs 100% of the time) as compared to a Prius. Anyway good luck with sorting out your issue.

Meri duain aap ke saath hain.

BTW were you watching the technician like a hawk when the work was going on? Did you see all the things he did? Did he just touch the things you said and nothing more. My Civic is serviced by the Honda dealership since zero meter. Masha Allah It is 7 years old with no problems. I stand there and question the tech about each and everything BEFORE he touches anything. At the risk of looking like an a** h**e and being a pain in the a** of the tech, I satisfy myself that nothing stupid is being done. End result is that he is careful of what he is about to do.

The problem with Toyota is that they have not officially imported the Prius to Pakistan thus the Japanese have not trained the technicians on the Prius unlike the Camry, Pardo, Land Cruiser etc. Specifically in the case of the Prius, going to Toyota or Ustaad Rehmat Ali sitting under a tree is essentially the same thing.
