last wekend i made a trip to the second largest salt mines of the world.
i was under some pressure from family for a family trip and coz of the recent protests i cud not manage
trip to kashmir or northern side
although every1 here is preti aware of khewra and kalar kahar and ketas i wud like to share my experience and
some recent situtions at khewra that mite be useful for all travellers
the route was
:
islamabad-kalar kahar (motorway interchange)-ketas-chua saidan shah-khewra-pind dadan khan.and back by same
route.
the total distance from islamabd to khewra is 190 Kms. the total distance i travelled is therefore 380 kms....
there are two three things i wud love to mention here
1- the ketas temples are being renovated, which made me very happy,
2- the rest house in Khewra just near the mine is no longer available for tourist. it is now with PMDC
so anyone making the plan shud make a day trip......i had stayed in the same place in 2007 it was nice place to
stay
3- the train which takes tourists till the main spot in the mine is currently Un operational......
so one has to walk all that way.. my poor mother had to walk this 2 km also...this was saddening .....
overall the mine is in gud shape still.......
i am uploading pics at flickr in order -Kalar kahar -khewra-Ketas
