Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has confirmed that it will be producing an all-new MPV dubbed Ingenio, which will go on sale in 2008. M&M considered using the Bolero platform as a base, but ditched the idea and has decided to use an-all new platform. ?Platforms are constantly evolving so we decided develop an all-new platform with all the latest know-how,? said Pawan Goenka, president of M&M?s automotive sector. The Ingenio will be built on the conventional body-on-frame chassis, but Goenka admitted that the company is ?working on a monocoque platform? as well.
Goenka confirmed that the Ingenio will come with a variety of engine options, but was not specific. However, it is likely that a Renault petrol and the ?Eagle?, a new state-of-the-art diesel motor which will first see duty in the Scorpio, will power the Ingenio. The Ingenio will be M&M?s second MPV and will draw from the lessons learnt from the ill-fated Voyager van. Goenka feels the Voyager was a failure because it was a ?full-forward? design, outdated and priced too high at the time of the launch. The Ingenio will come with contemporary styling and spacious interiors and, according to company sources, will directly rival the Toyota Innova in a bid to grab a piece of its enviable market share.
