Brother the J70 platform was virtually unchanged till 1999, when the front leafs were replaced with coils for better road manners, and rear leafs were made longer for a better ride. These changes appeared on what is commonly known as JMR. The JMR had the same engine as the RMR, the 4.2 1HZ naturally aspirated diesel. The RKR ran the 3F 4.0 gasoline engine with the H41 trans 4 forward. Specs on these motors are all over the net, so as you can find out, the 3F has more torques and horses than a 1HZ. That 'serious torque' you are talking about is due to a diesels torque band which starts right off idle but dies out higher up in the revs. The 3F needs around 2000 revs to really start pulling, but beyond that i tell you, it can haul 1HZ *** till it disintegrates. That 'fun' element is down to the gearing, RKRs have very low gearing, more suited to strictly offroad use, which some would see as a plus. Thats why you dont get the kind of go you would expect from a 'chaar hazaar see see patrol'. The same engine is in the 60 series and that cruises along at 160 without breaking a sweat. So the point is, if its offroad action, towing, climbing, crawling and generally more heavy duty applications, RKRs are the way to go.
