Honda Recalls 1.4 Million Vehicles globally over âDefective Fuel Pumpâ.
If you are 10th generation Civic owner and you replaced the fuel pump, this may sounds interesting..
The fuel pump issue affects vehicles manufactured between 2018 to 2020 and depending upon the regions, it affects various models of Honda and its sub brand Acura inducing the NXS . This list also includes Civic, Accords, HRVâs, CRV, Insight.
The issue is with the low pressure fuel pump which is installed in the fuel tank and normally known as â LPFP â . The fuel pump has an impeller which is faulty and can cause loss of power and this results in the fuel pump stop working eventually not feeding the fuel line and vehicle can stop without any notice.
According to official Global Honda statement
" The impellers were exposed to production solvent drying for longer periods of time, potentially resulting in surface cracking. In the impeller (resin impeller) of the low-pressure fuel pump, the molding conditions are inadequate, so the resin density becomes low and the resin may swell and deform. As a result, the impeller comes into contact with the pump cover, causing the fuel pump to malfunction, and in the worst case, the engine may stall during driving"
Why this is important for us in Pakistan ?
Honda Pakistan import parts for the assembly of Civicâs in Pakistan and this includes the fuel pump. As per current information, there had been number of 10th generation Civic owners in Pakistan who faced this exact same issue with this fuel pump. So far and so, some owners even replace it twice under warranty. If you are Civic owner and you experienced a situation that your vehicle stopped/ stalled without any apparent reason, its time to check for the fuel pump.
Normally, when vehicles are recalled in overseas market, the defective part/s are replaced under the recall and the owner of the vehicle donât pay anything even if the car is out of warranty timeline. In many cases car companies even pay owners, if they show proof that the parts was replaced by owner themselves.
If you are Civic owner in Pakistan and you replaced the low pressure fuel pump at your own cost, you might NOW have a reason to ask Honda Atlas to look into this matter and ask for the refund, although it has a very less probability .
Maybe your vehicle was with the defective fuel pump from the factory. Honda Atlas has not said anything officially about the issue of the fuel pump but Honda Atlas has been replacing fuel pumps of number of 10th generation Civic owners in recent times.
There is a due chance , these defective fuel pumps reached Pakistan as well. It's time for Honda Atlas to track back the fuel pump part numbers and LOT/ batch numbers to check if their imported LOT is part of the defective manufacturing. Its duty of Honda Atlas to investigate these pumps and generate a "RECALL NOTICE " for PKDM Civic if they find the issue.
