Anyone else getting pretty good fuel economy from their Turbo? I've started driving with a very light foot just to see how high I can take it, and it went from somewhere around 13 up to 16.5. And this is city driving only, driven around in Islamabad using the signal free roads where possible. None of this was done on the motorway. The car is driven on high octane only, and has done upwards of 40k km total. I might also add that this was achieved in the recent winter weeks, with the A/C off.
Once again, I'm getting 16.5 km/l driving around within Islamabad, and as you can see, this is not a case of having a light foot immediately after resetting the trip meter (which also resets the km/l gauge, and gives ridiculous readings of around 22+ km/l for a few short minutes), since the pictures clearly show this is my fuel economy after having driving upwards of a thousand miles since the last reset.
This is what I've done to achieve this:
I don't push off hard from traffic signals, I take off lightly and increase speed gradually.
I follow the flow of traffic, and don't try to overtake too much, especially when I know I'll be braking a few hundred meters down the road.
I don't brake too hard or too early when turning, this gives me sufficient speed after the turn that I don't need to accelerate too hard on the straight.
I ease off the accelerator when going downhill (this takes my "real time" economy meter to go up all the way to "40", and I don't loose so much speed that I'll have to aggressively accelerate in order to stay in sync with traffic).
I've kept the car maintained at the prescribed intervals, and changed the spark plugs at around 30k km.
I am EXTREMELY light footed, but not enough to hinder traffic behind me. I only mean I do not accelerate hard or drive fast. You can be light footed with the car going at 70, 80 km/h. I've actually maxed the economy meter to "40" at 80 km/h, just by accelerating to that speed in a calm manner, and then keeping a light foot on the gas to keep the cars speed somewhat steady at 80.
Here's the proof, and nope, I haven't altered these images.
I'm only posting here because some of my colleagues wouldn't believe me when I told them my Turbo was giving me 16.5 km/l, until I showed them the pics.
Drive safe and smooth, everyone.
(p.s. I took all these pictures while stationary, save for the last one, where I was slowing down for a speed breaker on a deserted road. Please don't take pictures while driving!)
(ninja edit, I forgot to mention that the economy mode was on during this entire endeavor, which is not visible in the pictures save for the last one)
