Yes, it depends on driving style and driving conditions/environment. Will also depend on Oil quality and how well you maintain the car.
It will never ask u to change at 10,000km, there is an oil viscosity measuring instrument built into it.
You should make sure that the mechanic turns this to Zero when he changes the oil. But as I said it will never ask u to change exactly at 10,000km, it will always be less. In the best-case scenario, it will ask you to change oil around 7,500~8,500 km.
But the alarm would come in advance so that you have enough mileage left to go for Oil Change at your convenience!

I don't think oil viscosity is measured or there is any instrument to accurately tell the actual condition of oil.

So all these oil service life monitors are not accurate to the level at which you all are believing.

10K Maintenance done. Oil Change indication gone now. Honda techs advised that i should visit as soon as that message pop ups instead of waiting for actual mileage to complete. No harm in getting the maintenance done a bit early.

Same oil is being used. They're now finally catching up with the world with oil life. 5k Kms or 3 months recommendation before was extremely conservative and wasteful especially with synthetic oils. Even our neighbour India, with similar environmental conditions and worse driving conditions have 10k Kms oil changes for a few years now.

It all depends on # of cold starts, distance driven per trip and quality of oil.

Anything above and beyond that is just time waste.

In Direct Injection turbocharged engines, it’s much much better to change it earlier. Cost of frequent oil changes is nothing compared to the problems it can cause if you don’t.

Imagine doing 3 cold starts a day, every day and driving over short distances in stop and go traffic for 10K KMs before new oil.

Yeah for these new engines it's best to go with whatever the oil life monitor says. But I have slight doubts about atlas calibrating local civics olms being more conservative. 6k Kms on synthetic oil is still very conservative unless the car is cold started and short trip driven a lot. Or maybe the olm is calling for earlier change because of the engine still being in the break in period.

1. Better Drive, as in combination of better bump absorption ability without really compromising Civic Nature and a lighter steering, personally felt better.

2. More Spacious certainly and slightly better seats (Slightly )

3. Cabin looks and feels good, again slightly more than the last one. Cars feels modern and techy without really being both 🤣

4. Headlamps in Oriel is a downgrade compared to previous oriel.

al right guys. this oil change is a scam too. they make a lot of money over oil change so keep in mind:

1. if an oil says its for 5000, do not change before 5000 or 10000 or whatever the range is. if you are too concerned, check the viscosity physically. you can also learn from checking oil if once its being changed. an 8000 km oil is a just a slightly different then a 5000 run oil.

2. also, the ranges on oil boxes themselves have a cushion of 500-1000 km. so in reality, you must use a 5000 km oil upto 6000 or 6500 specially in a intra city run.

3. You can also tell by the drive of your engine when it really needs an oil change. also, do not mix the kick you get out after oil change with air filter. air filter also tremendously improves engine performance initially.

4. all i want to say is that be easy on oil change. you must always go over limit the ranges mentioned; just dont change if before the registered limit specially if you are not flooring the car.

5. I have driven 2 honda civic & a city with 6500 oil change regime against recommended 5000. mileages were 165000. 50,000 & 80,000. smooth as silk. even when i drove till 8000 once, the ustad je couldnt guess if the oil has viscosity issue. so just relax guys.

I am open to valuable feedback from experts because i beleive this oil change is among the industry bluffs as well.

Honda I think says to get the oil changed at 10K kms but if the change indicator comes on before that then it would probably have to be changed since the warranty factor comes into play then.

That’s all normal for modern synthetic oils.

Up to 7000 miles or 10k kms is all good for fully synthetic api sn + oils of OK quality. Good quality oils go beyond that.

there are oils made for even 25,000+ miles or 40,000km in normal driving conditions. Same oil goes to 25,000km under severe conditions.

Heavy usage is defined usually as towing loads or running car idle all the time like cop cars.

Usually it’s a good idea to change the oil filter after 10,000km regardless of u gonna change at 10k km or 25k km.

It's NOT normal. The later you change oil (no matter if manufacturer claims it was manufactured on Jupiter), the more breakdown in the oil be, and for direct injection engines (which are much more susceptible to carbon buildup primarily due to a lack of port injection), it's crucial that you either: involve regular highway drive at a constant cruise speed for EGR, PCV to work over prolonged time, OR change the oil frequently. This is one of the reasons why Toyota introduced both Direct and Port injection in some of their engines. Guess why!

Why are we blindly accepting it's OK to change after 10K mileage (it's already a stretch in local conditions)? Only an idiot would use an oil that's rated for 40K KMs in a local commodity car (even if the manufacturer says so hypothetically). I'm sure in the cost of 1x Amsoil you can get 2x Shell Helix, etc. That's twice the oil changes. Overall a much better option for the engine.

Amsoil contradicts itself by also mentioning that the oil should be used for as long as the car manufacturer recommends even though they otherwise claim that 25k miles is possible. So it's only a 25k mile life oil if the manufacturer of the vehicle recommends oil changes at 25k miles.
