If pricing is so off and cars are so expensive, then why is no car available readily? People do have capacity as well ( a particular class) but in pretty large numbers. Companies should thank me if i want to buy one but here situation is different.. people are literally begging on the premium rates showing the most are fine with the invoice prices already.

From Alto to fortuner, every single car is selling on premium, not readily available . People are queued up and we think we will get discounts

Then it would make sense to book now, only that atlas should have announced the car by now. Displaying the car could be delayed but at least they should get the specs and price revealed so those who want to book don't have to wait for the investors to consume the whole year bookings.

I couldn’t agree more about the blame part. These car makers are a mafia and now more members have joined the team of existing cartel showing them new ways of overpricing products. Unreasonable hikes is the new code. They blame it on currency devaluations when purely they increase their own margins as well in the shadow of this excuse. What’s the point of local assembly if prices have to be directly proportional to forex.

Response and sales number of Honda City that too an insanely priced obsolete model is a case example for Atlas and after the new model hype of Civic goes away, same will happen to Civic. Sales will drop if they overprice it.

Also many many thanks to people paying hefty premiums who make car makers realise people can pay more.

Spot on. What's difficult to understand from a business point of view is: what keeps any business from starting local manufacturing of engines, transmissions, suspensions and other high value parts, thereby undercutting others who have avoided doing so in the past 30 years and capturing the market? The very fact that none has gone down this route tells you that its not a free market but an oligopoly, an unholy alliance rather than competitive businesses. Just look at the increase in the annual profits declared by the assemblers after all these price hikes (as pointed by arkhitekt). The profits wouldn't have ballooned had they been merely passing on the increase in their costs to the consumers.
As consumers of an essential commodity, unfortunately there isn't much that can be done at the consumers' level if the state and the authorities choose to look the other way.

Lol, as much as I hate high prices of cars, it’s not the car makers fault.

Why don’t you direct your anger at the govt?

Car still costs 30,000 dollars.
Before 2018 price was 30 lacs.

After tabdeeli it automatically costs 54 lacs excluding the increase in taxes.

It’s simple logic. Just in 3 years rupee lost massive value. Dollar is double in price now.

Everyone gotta survive. Everyone is selling things at 2x the price now. Be it milk, anday, cars or property.

in november when car prices increased before that civic and corolla were priced almost the same after the car prices increased civic increased their prices upto 4 lacs and corolla increased upto 2 lac, dono ke liye dollar be same ruppe be same logistics be japan se dono ke then why double?

Irrelevant. 2 lacs is like 1000$ only. Different price of sourcing, shipping containers, cost of assembling, etc.

Like I said it is totally irrelevant.

The relevant thing is doubling of dollar.

25 lacs gari costs 45 lacs.

Price is still $25,000 dollars. Don’t you get it?

The assemblers too at the end of the day don’t want to make losses. Like any business they keep margins and end up in net profits usually.

Just to add, car companies are not investing in localization and heavily dependent on import . What I tell you that famous sharkfin antenna is also imported by Atlas from China.

Government Must put a minimum % of localization and I believe there is a certain number but car companies are not following it and government is not enforcing it.

Lol, you make it sound like it's so black and white. No sir, the root cause is the 30-40 years of rot, not the past 4-5 years. Besides the last gov artificially kept the dollar rate low and this is not something that I am just saying, might wanna read up the articles/editorials in the newspapers back then.

But saying that the car makers are not to blame is naive to say the least. They don't lower the prices when it goes down. Once the price is increased it's increased. Like someone said earlier, why does the dollar effects the pricing? Shouldn't they be localizing? Why haven't the big three done so yet? I mean they've been operating in our country for decades now, but we are still left at the mercy of dollar rate? Let's please not exonerate the "pious" automakers so offhandedly.

Its actually the pti goverment which broke lose hell on pakistanis. Car companies have barely a play margin of 2 to 5%.

Localisation is a good point but it can’t be reached to a significant level until a company opens fully owned and operated plant.

Honda and Toyota at least do some localisation. New entrants are like we don’t give a #€&& at all.

All Importing ckd kits.

Still, the things we produce locally have also increased in price massively.

I mean freaking eggs, sugar, wheat, property, cement etc etc.

So even with localisation the poor economic situation will have its toll..

This "artificial dollar" fact is so wrong. Pti goverment spilled 5.8 billion dollar in open market to control dollar price but it didnt stop.

Localisation?? ....pti didnt even stop MG from importing thousands of CBUs against allowed 300. It was the biggest automobile scam . Standalone MG resulted in dollar trade imbalance and hence ruppee weakening.

People forgot that that "greenfield inauguration " of MG happened in primeminister house lawn and not in industrial estate. This is the level of corruption and mismanagement of present government.
