How to Choose the Right Motor Oil - For Dummies

I knew all this. even in the article it suggests, using the viscosity recommended by the manufacturer. And for the corolla i guess that's between 0w20 to 10w40 . (I'd consider 10w30 to be ideal in our temperatures).
But ofcourse it's your car, and you may have your own reasons for choosing a different viscosity oil, and i totally respect that.

"Thicker is Better Myth
The reason that oil viscosities have gotten thinner is because bearing clearances have become smaller. Using thicker oils will interfere with oil flow and the oil pressure will increase. In a worn engine it may be okay to increase the viscosity of the oil because the bearing clearances have become larger" quoting from another forum.
Plus i was also confused about this oil thing. But after a considerable amount of search and info gathering im now using 5w30/10w30 in my Belta. And I'm satisfied.
The picture you've posted, the same description is given in beltas manual. And thus i can say, for me 10w30 is ideal. Best on fuel consumption and easier on the engine

And ofcourse even 20w50 won't harm your engine. But it will definitely raise the oil pressure in your engine. And decrease the consumption. If you're comfortable with an average of 9 from a car capable of 11.it's perfectly fine.
But just one thing. The letter before W.the cold oil flow must be kept on the thinner side. To allow for oil to lubricate better at cold starts

How's Shell Ultra 5w20

Sir 5w20 is very thin at higher temp. And won't be suitable in lahore and karachi hot climates.
A very thin oil can cause metal-metal friction and hence increase wear of the engine. 10w30 or 10w40 would be safe for any normal road car here

The range 5w-50 is best suited to our hot summer climate. 30 is too low in my opinion. 40 on the higher side would be just ok.

Hmm..I agree with Abdullah and Autophile has made a good point also in this discussion.

For the 1.3 and 1.6 Corollas - 10w40 or even 20w40 is good for khi and lhr hot weather
For the 1.8 new engine - 10w30 is ideal and 5w40, also fine

That being said, in my opinion, for the first oil change at 1,000 km, there is no need to put a fully synthetic oil (5w30, 5w40) as the next oil change will be at 5,000 km anyway. 10w30 is fine in this regard, as we are only paying extra for 5w40 due to the VI (viscosity index) improver, polymers that make up synthetic oil.

END OF THE DAY it's the car owner's choice - just make an informed decision.

Can you share the photo of the keyless entry remote control plus the waiting period for delivery and total registration cost, and insurance cost, if any, incurred? I am planning to go for Altis 1.8 CVTI Non grande, so want to know all the details in advance. Thank you for providing guidance.

You are correct. I got mine in under 2 months from Karachi Central - can give you the name of the sales person, proactive service which I liked, as compared to the other dealers I visited and observed. Registration was Rs. 65,000 (got the number of my choice in the range given to me by sales). Insurance is Rs. 60,000/ year. I did not install tracker.

A good oil choice for new cars would be a multiviscosity 5W-30 oil which is very light and convenient for every day regular driving. If your car engine is not so new, then a 10W-30 would be a good oil choice. Also, if you usually drive your car in a hot weather and at a high speeds, then a 10W-30 or a 10W-40 would be a good oil to use.

Toyota first oil change is at 5,000 kms. Back in 2005 when I bought a Corolla and went for 1,000 km check up and asked them to change oil, they said they would do it but it was not needed, so I did not replace it at 1,000 km.

PS: do not worry about mobil oil too much. If it is original and SN grade, it's not going to do any harm to engine. Corollas run fine over 250,000 kms even with Shell's Red (cheapest one) and guard filter. Fully synthetic is safe and slightly better fuel efficiency.

In the end it is personal choice. But benefit is not proportional to extra cost.

I guess you wanted to write "but it was NOT needed"
A few weeks ago I took my Mehran Euro II for 1st check up at 1000 KMs, even for Mehran the 1st oil change is at 5,000 KMs.
