hahahaha, the great oil controversy arises again. I've said this before, every one gives a different set of numbers without actually understanding what those numbers actually mean. Please try to understand these numbers and heir actual significance and you'll be out of this confusion. Here is a brief summary of my take on all that has been said in recent posts:

1. No oil damages your engine, but thicker oils do put extra load on it.

2. The grade is actually more important than the viscosity. Cars having catalytic converters installed in the exhaust system should not use anything except SN grade as the by products of 'ALL' other grades poison the catalyst. As a matter of fact, that is the only difference between SN and SM grade.

3. Toyota recommends it's genuine oil filters for 10,000km even in the much harsher conditions of Dubai. I don't see why they shouldn't last that long in Pakistan.

4. Synthetic oils are always better than mineral but beware of oils having a difference of greater than 30 between the cold and working viscosity values. These oils are filled with VI stabilizers which are highly prone to disintegration and reduce the life of oil. Usually good synthetic oils with good oil filters should be good for 10k. Oils with high VIs even if synthetic will need change at shorter intervals.

5. Shell has been inquired about repeatedly. The comment that shell oils are local is not entirely correct. Shell helix ultra (black can) is imported and in my opinion a good oil. The rest from shell are local. That's the only difference between the black and blue can which have exactly same specification other wise.

6. Toyota does not require toyota oils for warranty. The manual clearly says 'these specification oils from toyota OR equivalent'.

7. Any good synthetic SN grade oil of 10w40 or 5w30 is recommended for the new corolla IMHO.

How's Toyota 10W-30?
or suggest any other like Shell/Total etc.
I m confused about flushing procedure, is it mandatory or any simple solution?
Will change of oil effect car performance & fuel consumption.
No friend is guiding.

O guys have a heart. Oil..oil..oil..

Here it goes.
1. Use any good branded 5w30 or 0w30 oil.
2. Stay away from wide viscosity grades like 5w50 etc for our small sump engines
3. Avoid 20w50 in newer engines (consider only after 100k kms)
4. No need to flush before 50k km.
5. Always use a good branded oil filter. The inner element and O ring of a cheapo filter can fail anytime.

Have more fun. .and less oil worries!

Go for 10-30, no need for flushing.

I went for Taglon 5w50 in april or May, keeping in mind that summer was coming with as much high temperature as 47 'C .Taglon is fully synthetic and i believe synthetic oils are good enough. It is a bit viscous but not that viscous that it will create enough load on Engine.

As i said before, i am using Total packing oil 10w40 semi synthetic from day one with simple guard filter in my other ride vitz which is now 150k km driven. Its engine is running as smooth as like running on day one. I never had a problem of oil reduction in it and engine is not giving any kind of smoke at all. So that is why i have a believe on Synthetic oil.

Thanks for your reply. When the change interval is 5K kms, I think mineral oils are good and cost effective. I have been using Caltex Havoline Formula 10-30 in my 9th Gen Xli and it was great. There was not single issue with it's engine till I sold it at 134,000 kms. Pick, acceleration, noise, fuel economy was just like a new engine.

Brother you are right, oil should be synthetic atleast. I have been using Shell helix hx5 10w40 since 2006 in both corolla Gli and Civic eg. Never faced any issuses at all.

Go for any 10-30w oil any good brand or any brand you like and get original Toyota oil filter. No need for flush and change oil every 5000km.

Ahmed bhai I can understand what are you trying to judge from experiences of fellow pakwheelers but look at the number of this post .. every body has his own taste and preferences and he will judge the car accordingly..In childhood I had a bicycle then a Yamaha 80 then honda 70,first car of mine was Charred Diesel second was Suzuki Khyber then Mitsubshi Lancer after this I purchased a Vitz 2011(the most sluggish among all) and sold it after 2 months. I drove crolla 2012 M/T for month or so before the delivery of this new GLI. After driving all these I remain the same "Insaan" jo kisi haal maen khush nheen rehta
"Khwashat to Badshaoon ke bhe pori nheen hoteen"
So brother Shukar Allah ka I am very happy with new car, elegant enough,smoother then Lancer, Vitz and M/T Corolla.
But after driving my elder brother's new Honda Civic today I am planning my next car, definitely a 1.8
Ja apni hsrtoon pay aanso bha k so ja .... poor me
P.S. For fuel average I will up load a ODO picture of Islamabad to Lahore journey
