Welcome to Day 3
A beautiful and clear morning in Rama Meadows welcomed us. We were up around 6: 00 a.m. and the long process of getting ready almost took 3 hours.
Mubeen Amjad was not feeling well so we left him at hotel. One of the jeeps was giving some trouble so we sent members of jeep 1 to Rama Lake and remaining members started the trek on foot. We covered some distance on foot and crossed the meadows and bridge over glacial stream. The jeep returned while we were in middle of ascend. In short, we all were at Rama Lake in 1 hour.
The first group was on far end of the lake so we dropped off the jeep at start and started to climb on left side slope. It took us around 15-20 min to reach the desired location which was giving full view of the lake, background peaks and the glacier as well.
We spent some time there, took some beautiful shots of Rama Lake and then went down to the group. While we were doing high altitude shoot, the second jeep also arrived and Mubeen also came as he was feeling a bit better now.
We did some group shots and started the return journey. We saw a couple with their young daughter doing Rama Lake trek on our way up and now they were searching for a jeep to go down so we gave them lift till PTDC.
Our luggage was already packed so we quickly took some group shots at entrance of PTDC Rama and left for Astore.
Important:
The checkpost before Astore advised us to complete entries in police station before moving ahead. So, we went through the long entry process in Astore police station before leaving for Trashing and it is advised to anyone going beyond Astore to please complete this process to avoid any trouble later on.
We left for Astore around 12:45 p.m. and stopped for fuel refill at a shop. Main supply was suspended due to delay in arrival of tankers and all petrol pumps were waiting for fuel. So, we had to buy expensive fuel.
Next task was to do a brunch and we chose Madina Green Palace Hotel for it. Chicken Baryani was ordered as we were missing rice for last 2 days. The food was good and luckily one of the co-owners of the hotel was a local of Upper Astore. I had asked about Riat Lakes to different people since last night but till now no one really knew exactly what i was talking about or where were these lakes. This person's village was Gishat and he was a lawyer and living in Astore. Gishat is just before Riat Village so he knew the area very well and gave me detailed information. Also, he gave me names of 3 people in Gishat village including a forest office caretaker who he said will be definitely helpful in arranging for the trek.
He was extremely happy and excited that we were planning to explore this area and offered any sort of help to make this explore successful.
Fuel refill, brunch, police station entry and shopping took around 3 hours and finally we left Astore for today's destination that was Trashing
Some of our dear friends did personal shopping out of tour budgeted money which caused climax drama at the end of tour
The road was good till Gorikot and to some distance ahead of bridge crossing. Then it worsened as we neared Trashing. On a safe side, we checked two petrol pumps around Gorikot but none of those had any fuel.
We reached Trashing in 1 hr 40 min and stopped the jeeps at the last point just under the Trashing glacier ridge. We started Trashing glacier trek immediately and spent an hour there with another wonderful sunset
Lots of posing and group shots were done and eventually we came down to the jeeps 15-20 min after sunset. We saw only two main hotels near the road. The one which comes first had already some campers and had smaller lawn while the other one which comes later has bigger lawn and was empty.
Same place where @asifcae and group stayed last night and where @asifraza81, @Xoofi & co. stayed a night later
The hotel name is Nanga Parbat Hotel and we paid Rs.1,000 for 6 camps. We were carrying our own food so just took chapatis and cold drinks from hotel.
The night was funfilled with dinner, antakshari, dhol, bonfire and ofcourse night photography
But the best thing was clear sky with occasional layers of clouds which let us do ample star gazing and a memorable Milkyway galaxy time lapse
When we arrived in Trashing, there were lots of clouds over Nanga Parbat massif. But as night progressed, the clouds disappeared and after 12 a.m. it was all clear
I did 2 sessions of star trails / time lapse here as well while group enjoyed bonfire, sheesha and finally went to sleep. Hussam stayed with me till 12:45 a.m. and then he also went to sleep. I finished my session around 1:30 a.m. and finally day 3 ended.
