Fitted in the bump stop on the left side and took the car for a test drive on a known road. Bumps that would previously make a loud bang now were almost inaudible. Travelling at a decent speed (40-50 MPH) over the worst of the ruts were able to overcome the new rubber part. Of course this was a TEST drive, I would not normally go over bumps at such speeds:)
Here is a picture of the part installed.
You can see that with the car jacked up, the weight of the axle plus force of the spring is squishing the bump stop. Actually it is meant deform in this manner and cushion the axle as the suspension drops into ruts. Apologies for the out of focus picture. It is very hard to take this picture due to tight space. I think the car needs a bit of a wash underneath the chassis. It was last washed over 28 years ago :o. That will be an adventure I am sure.
Next will be the right side and Insha Allah that will mark the end of the rear suspension overhaul job.
