Finally...I've gotten my hands on the '65, after so many days I'd almost lost count!
The past few days had been a whirlwind of small, niggling, irritating problems that were being addressed. The shaft universal joint was damaged, the connection between the shaft and the diff was out of alignment, the coil-sprung suspension was biting into the shocks which were also out of alignment, the front suspension had some rattles, the ends were sort of kamzor, the brakes were spongy, and the fuel pump wasn't working...which resulted in a jerky sort of power delivery.
All these have now been fixed, praise be to Allah. The Impala landed up in Kharian about an hour ago...and already, it's been put through its paces. Imran and Nikku Ustad's respective teams have done an absolutely incredible job with the machine.
It flies!
Shayaan (my son, who is here with me in Kharian preparing for his exams) took the first test drive with me, a while ago. Let me just say...when he got down from the car afterwards, his knees were as shaky as mine from the mind-boggling experience of sitting in a car this size, traveling at terrifying speeds!
Tomorrow morning, the '65 Impala gets some home-grown TLC, in the form of a loving-adoring wash and wax. Its photoshoot will commence shortly thereafter, in the evening, Insha Allah!
