The 64 bug that you can see in the above pictures was spotted by @murtaza_murti at Shabo's (VW Kabari/KHI) a couple of days ago who was readying his axe to chop her off.
@murtaza_murti posted about it on page 407 of VWCOP thread here on PWs, searching for a possible saviour who could snatch it off from the chopping block. Even though I have my hands full with two VW projects already, it was too disappointing to see one of the last few pre-65 bugs to end up on chopping block. Thats when I decided to save her or at least I started trying by talking to Shabo. He was firm at 38K after his initial demand of 40K. Coupled with @murtaza_murti, the efforts began.
A big thanks to @murtaza_murti to take out time who went finding more details on this particular 64 bug breathing at the chopping block for me that also happened to be a matching number as found out by us later.
Letting it to go down the drain after knowing this fact, was something that needed courage, that I didn't find in me as a VW nut. So @murtaza_murti helped me cut a deal on this one for 38K final (shipping costs to Multan to top that).
Even though I believe at this price its not a steal with Carb/Cleaner/Coil/Tank/Headlights/Trim/Passenger Side Window Glass/Window Winders missing & incorrect bumpers on, but had to do it as there wasn't any way around it since Shabo didn't want any less than 38K.
Among other details, motor turns, car shifts, has busted tires etc. Taxes are paid upto December 2010 with CPLC being clear and car bearing Original Number Plates numbered M-7200.
With the exception of window winders/passenger window glass & headlights, I have everything in stash to bring her back alive and hit the road and thats exactly what I plan to do.
B/w This also happens to be the first 64 to make it on Pakistan's Air-Cooled VW Registry.
More/detailed pictures coming soon - watch this space.
