Thanks for the input but I already have used Lithium Based Multi Purpose Grease as the lubricant even though I am sure it would melt with time in the scortching heat of Multan but then again as you yourself said, something is better than nothing for lubrication.

Another fear that I do have regarding the use of the grease as a lubricant is that it might attract dust again from Multan's dusty atmosphere and would ultimately jam the winders again but then I had to use some lubricant so I did.

Thanks for reminding the lubrication part as I missed mentioning about it in my assembly post today.

to stop dust getting in your doors too easily you can fit a plastic backing to your inner doors (behind the panel). easiest solution is a trash bag cut to shape and attached using some non drying gum or similar product.

i'm lookin ginto this prospect for my 1303 at the moment too but this will not stop the crud from entering the inside of your doors form the drain holes at the bottom,... again, something is better than nothing.

I agree..Still no matter what you do, there would be some dust and moisture that gets in from the top (even with new window scrapers) The key is to not forget cleaning the door insides and lubrication, say, every year. It is not a recommended-by-VW service interval but I have seen a lot of otherwise good doors rust at the bottom just because the owner never bothered to check the insides of the door or remove the accumulated dirt, clear the clogged drain holes.

Prevention is better than cure.

if all else fails use samad bond to glue them in. as for lubricant for the window winder, use some grease as oil will not allow it to be as smooth as possible. the grease will last longer but will eventually also drip down due to the heat in PK.

perhaps Xulfiqar could suggest a certain grease which will not "melt" too fast in our heat.

any lubricant is better than no lubricant though so even a few drops of engine oil will be helpful.

any grease that melts under ambient heat is not automotive grease - buy a tube of Mobil NLGI2 lithium soap EP wheel bearing grease. (blue stuff). Toofan khan would also be carrying a Petromin equivalent I believe. The last I saw mobil recently was in February this year when I was in Pakistan, it was Rs 600 for the cartridge (good stuff). I also have a tub of grease in Pakistan that I use for industrial purpose, it does not melt when you set it on fire, it will just form a black soft sooty coating around it (which remains slick btw). I got it from Zahedan - them folks were filling MB bus wheel bearings with it.

here's a trick, apply a thin layer of grease on the inside and on the outside of the door bases. dust will stick to it and moisture won't. what you must do is completely remove/clean it every 1-2 years and you'll never get rusty door bottoms.

That might be a good idea to grease the inner side walls of the doors as I have noticed that just not only the bottom inside panel but the walls too get rusted over time but I am not sure if I want to do it with the bottom inside panel of the doors, as while the dust would stick to grease layer, there are healthy chances that this cacking also blocks out the drain holes somehow with inside bottom panels are greased.

i forgot to add that we must leave the drian holes open,... for that we must insert a small piece of a drinking straw which will ventilate and drain the inside of the door.

spray some WD40 on the bottom of the doors from inside - it will seep into the exposed metal protecting it.

Follow the above route with the rust convertor and you will not need any WD 40 coating or any other supplement. Tried and tested!
