the dash area usually turns out the best when cleaned up. The paint would have escaped exposure to the elements. However it requires patience and time. You can try an old tooth brush and a soapy water mix and get to the edges of the trim and other hard to reach areas. I wonder why the area around the switch is so badly stripped of paint..the P.O. must have a very bad aim..the ignition switch looks original so it can't be that the area was worked on. The rest of the scratches can just be treated with cutting cream and waxed to prevent rust formation..

Lol, I guess the ship can be put to better use. May be for bringing in some splits & ovals & barndoors & panel vans and zwitters seems more rewarding than just the tiny parts.

Oh of course....I have become an expert on fully utilizing any available cargo capacity when it comes to anything VW related. You should try type 'parting out' and run a search on the Samba. You'll see how many restorable cars are being parted out and the price..

Nope the currently installed iginition switch isn't stock. Its an aftermarket piece and the black spot you see just around the ignition switch neck is actually a hand made warsher cut out of a metal sheet. Its not that the paint is chipped off.

With Patina came the Original Ignition switch with stock keys but the ignition has some loosing in the electrical points and doesn't really perform (that is exactly why I had included a used stock ignition switch with original key in my wish list shared with you) . I had checked it quite a few days ago to sort out what seemed to be the problem with that one to be replaced by an aftermarket one.

Yes I do remember..and I do have a NOS ignition switch somewhere in my stash. Meanwhile if you get a chance please show the original switch to Khalid the electrician. He can perform miracle surgeries on electrical parts. Arshad in Lahore is also capable of doing it but he is way too busy.

Always had the plan to do it with Khalid/Electrician but NOS Ignition Switch...mouth watering...if you know what I mean

I can relate to that..not only do I want in the car whatever NOS I can find but I want to save the original hoping I'll make it serviceable some day...

Precisely, that is why no matter how worn out/beaten anything original has come off Patina is still saved with me.

The fact of the matter is that the above fact has convinced my mother to award me with a title of "kabari", lol.

Spouses on the other hand can be less polite....

The paint is still original even though there is some surface rust on the outside. ..really clean on the inside.
