as already mentioned by our friend here, mechanics hate to work on the mazdas, thus making it pretty hard for the enthusiasts to restore them as conveniently as other jap classics. thus not many of them are being restored or saved.
among other reasons, like total unavailability of parts locally, i find it to be the sophistication of the "rotary" engines that intimidates the mechanics here as they tend to have worked on piston engines all their lives and have no or very less know how of the rotary engines. making them hate them mazdas and classifying the marque as "failed" cars.
mazda luce, being a piston engine car, is relatively easier for work on, for them but then its double wishbone front suspension is too sophisticated to their liking as our good friend @xulfiqar has explained. on the contrary for me, the total genius and being highly adjustable, the double wishbone suspension is one of the driving reason i chose this particular project.
