What We've Been Doing to the "Stormbringer"
A lot of you might be wondering why we're scraping away the Stormbringer's topcoat rather than sandblasting it. The reason is simple; over the years there's been such an accumulation of putties and paints and lacquers and hardeners, that the sandblasting is quite ineffective! What we're doing, thus, is scraping away the buildup, to bare the metal, following which we'll sandblast the rust and residue away.
The pictures also show the super lightweight Modellista rims fitted to the rear, along with the existing tyres. I really like the rims, but unfortunately, the offset is next to non-existent, so the tyres don't fully arch outwards. Some deep dish rims are thus, pretty much a necessity.
Also shown is the bonnet and the hood scoop. I love the scoop. It's well-constructed (a testament to previous owners), looks shapely, and is quite effective. However, we will be refurbishing it, somewhat...so as to make it a little more efficient, and somewhat more refined.
What I'm also super-pleased about, is the condition of the body. It's superb, Allah be praised. There are minimal areas where patchwork has been carried out. There is virtually no rust. And the lines are absolutely beautiful and clean. From a car that is pushing 40 years old, that's pretty damn good!
This is a hugely exciting build for me, personally. Whenever I lay eyes on it, my heart beats a little quicker to own something that not only IS so special, but has the potential to be even more so!
