Wow! What an amazing thread to follow!
I wish I could have followed this thread before, I might helped you in a few places.
Problem with MKII bearings; 2C is not the culprit, Chinese copy of bearings and use of multi purpose grease are! 18R, which originally came in Mark2 was hell heavy, so MKII suspension has the ability to bear 2C's weight. I have C series engines in my Mark2 since 1998, no problem with the bearings or bushes. I regularly use them on long routes and to hilly areas too. I'd suggest not to swap the hubs or alter anything in the suspension. There is a shop (Rehman Bearing Center) in Shoba who still sells quality wheel bearings. If you need a set, do let me know. front and rear bearing available along with oil seals.
Tip: tapered roller bearings required NLGI GC-LB spec grease but it is hardly available. Alternatively you can use Mobil XHP 222 Grease, its not GCLB spec but can bear the beating of a tapered roller bearing.
Sorry to hear that your visit to Peshawar wasn't a memorable one.. i'd not have advised you to visit Shoba for Mark2 parts. Shopkeepers at Shoba now keeps running items, like parts for market cars.. Mardan has market for 70's car parts but that too has now limited stuff available.
Power Steering was available in GLX models of Mark2 but it is close to impossible to find it these days. I had swapped early 80s Hiace steering box in one of my Mark2 and it fitted almost bolt on.. again I wish i could have seen this thread to inform you before you had faced all the trouble..
Although you have shared very very useful contacts, you might need to check Shamim sahab (Hilux Autos, 02132771427), he too had very good inventory of old toyota parts. had a pair beautiful NOS rings of 74-76 Mark2 rear lights.
Hope to see your car on road soon.
