This is one of those projects that I have really loved undergoing. For reasons of simplicity, and the quick reward of sheer driving pleasure.
Let me start by saying that I've never really been a great fan of JDM cars. I've always loved the big, brash, bruisingly-quick American barges and muscle cars of yesteryear. One exception to this rule, though was the Toyota MR2. More specifically, the Mark I (1st Generation cars built from 1984-1989).
When I was first commissioned, this was the car that I wanted to buy as my first "proper" car (there was this 1985 Mk I, that a cousin of a friend owned). When I was married (way back in 1992!), the 1988 Mk I was the car I wanted to buy as our first "proper" car. And yet, I never got around to doing so, on both occasions.
So when my brother rang me up to tell me about a 1988 Supercharged Convertible MR2 for sale on Pakwheels...I knew; I just had to have it!
When I got the car, it was in pretty good condition, and had undergone a change of colour from white and silver accents, to silver and dark grey accents. The superb condition of the car's interior and engine; a testament to the love and care that previous owners had lavished upon it (thank you, Salman and Tahir!). But then..."my" MR2, i.e., the one I had always kept locked away inside my head all these years, looked slightly different. Which is why I went about making it, the way I'd planned.
This thread is going to be a bit of an ongoing thing. Hopefully, I'll keep posting pictures and updates, as and when the car will keep getting odd modifications and upgrades. I hope everyone enjoys the pictures, and it also serves as inspiration to others, to save and rescue some of the unique rides that are still found in Pakistan.
Cheers.
Fouad.
