Diesel engine health

I simply dont understand that how can someone just out of his behind determine that the diesel engine is dead because of back blow... Did they check compression? (They wont even have a diesel tester) Was a proper vent check done? Maybe its restricted Did they check the valve clearances? Can cause noisy intake and blow like crazy (cylinders not filling with full air and hence no compression load on the rings) Did they actually check the timing..(forces the rings to expand on the power stroke …

Yes this happened with me only at Renault and multiple times. I discussed this with my cousin, he told that the Renault dealerships were going the extra mile as after the initial removal of oil in bulk, very minor quantity of oil drips out. Similarly he told while filling the new oil, some quantity of the oil takes some time to reach the oil sump after dripping through the engine parts, so just to ensure that they are not over filling the oil they take breaks after filling some quantity.

Its again very strange. Even if its their SOP, then it seems that Renault is not confident about their machines, or their engines are fragile, when compared to Toyotas.

European brands in general other than the German big guns like BMW, Mercedes, Audi etc have been considered unsuitable by the locals and expatriates alike in KSA. In recent years say 2015 onwards, the European car manufacturers like Renault, MG, Fiat, Peugeot etc have been trying to penetrate in the market. Talking about Renault, they started giving long warranties, buy back guarantees and good after sales service along with introducing better vehicles (specially in visual part). I believe to ensure that there vehicles run good in the extreme climate of KSA, they were a bit more careful.

Yes, many members are here which are expert in their fields and have practical, hands on experience. Xulfiqar Sahib and Osama Sahib are few of such members.

I wish, if any of them is here in the twin cities (especially the Capital), I work with them after my job timings and learn.

I have inquired about it - and the problem is to stop cheating at work, nothing more. Lots of the lube change workers in KSA are not even school educated and will pour the wrong oil. Thats why they are filmed on camera pouring from small containers.

I have bad news for you, The oil filter was probably never changed in your camry if you were in KSA unless you pressed for it.

The 2011 camry was pretty fresh to use the plastic up oil filter housing and if someone overtightens it - it requires a very brutal approach to remove and usually ends up broken.

The OEM Venza filter cap is aluminum and can be used by transferring over the center tube. The part number crosses over to many other current Toyota engines.

yes, but we are talking about KSA, the mechanics there at dealerships are on another level of incompetant.

I was sent some pictures by a member here - who resides in KSA and the picture had a nice crack in the upper sump of a 2010 camry engine because the filter was overtightened and the idiot mechanic took a 2 ft breaker bar and applied force in one direction only on a cold housing rather than use a sliding tommy to split the force two ways and use some heat first.

Yes I agree that most of the lube change workers are like what you described. But this description is more applicable on the Lube shops operating independently all around the kingdom. But my experience of dealing with chains like Petromin, AC Delco, and Renault Quick Service was a bit different. Like in one of the Petromin stations in city of Abha, I met a Pakistani guy from Karachi who had a diploma in auto service, experience of working in 3S dealerships in Pakistan and then was working as Lube changer at Petromin. Likewise I met a lot of professional guys from different countries including Philippines, Sri Lanka, India and Sudan in various stations situated in Riyadh.

The quality of work offered at different branches of the same chain is not same and even the availability of specialized tools and spares varied from branch to branch.

Can't say for the previous oil changes with the first owner, but we got the filter replaced both the time before the flushing and with all the oil changes after that. I am talking about around year 2016 here, so the Camry was pretty old at that time and had passed the stage of freshness.

You mean to say darker, not jet black right away? As my current oil after 1500 or so kms running is not even near the blackness of the last engine oil we drained, but yes it has turned darker as compared to the colour it was in the bottle.

From the discussion in this thread and going through various other informative threads, I understand that my concerns for the engine cleaning/ flushing requirement based on the darkness of drained oil color are not very valid. I have decided that I won't be going for any kind of engine flushing during this oil change. But to be on safe side, I am still thinking of getting the oil and filter replaced as soon as the lockdown in Karachi is over.

Having said that, we now move to the selection of engine oil for the vehicle. Before starting this thread, I went to the detailed discussions on the similar subjects and then was further guided by my good friends @capsat and @basitali87 to threads where the senior members like @Xulfiqar and @margallar have shared their valuable insights. Thus I won't be discussing the details already been clarified, rather I will be concise and specific for my vehicle.
