The valley on left behind the trees goes to Atabad Lake and further to Khunjrab and valley towards right is Nagar and in the background is Spatnik (Golden peak)

How do you manage to pull so much information out of a Landscape. Is it your previous experience with these places, maps,.... or a well informed jeep driver????

Main source of information is Google Earth. I already have detailed study of the landscapes and terrains in the North of Pakistan and rest is confirmed through pictures on internet or taken by me.

I took the jeep driver with me as he had never gone beyond Chilas

Uptill which point, the KKH is blacktopped new?

Road is bad from Thakot till Sazin area.

Before Chilas it gets a bit better due to open places and straight roads.

After Chilas till Raikot bridge again very pathetic condition.

Raikot bridge till Atabad Lake - newly carpeted road with 7,8 work areas for tunnels / bridges / water crossings.

The road beyond Atabad Lake till Khunjrab is also carpeted.

I still remember it was very pathetic when I last visited, back in 2010. It took ages to get to Hunza. But now :o Wow!
