@Szuberi, it's evident to see that for someone from Toronto you fail to note my keywords, "Subaru style" , which doesn't exactly mean Subaru invented it, its only mentioned as its commonly known that they use that format a fair bit.
And yes the factory turbos do tend to be a bit smaller, those various reasons would be to meet the emission standards, not have to put in stronger internals which would be required in a larger turbo setup and the fuel consumption figures. Also that same system of awd is being utilized in the new Honda Legend, or the Honda wannabe Acura RL.
With the americans getting fatter by the day, it should do well considering the normal cars can't haul their obese rear ends..
