I am running a 250GB hard drive with my head unitJust make sure that your file system is FAT32
Plus there is a thing about the number 255
No more folders than 255And no more files than 255 in each folder (including subfolders)
some external hard disk setups come with a power supply. see if u can find a dc adopter that converts from 12V to desired voltage. then u can run it on ur car system
All nice suggestions. I appreciate each and everyone of you. To those who suggested FAT32 file system, I did that already. I do however have more than 255 folders. I can reduce that and try again. Sub folder are definitely under 250. I also have an iphone but want to use the HD because sometimes I don't carry my phone. I will post some pix later.Thanks
Does it make a difference what format files are in? I just copied my entire "My Music" folder from my iTunes library into the drive. Does it only understand mp3 or wave format? Shouldn't I still see the folder structure in the head unit? Thanks for your reply.
WAV format wont run off hard disk or any other portable medium except audio cd. Only mp3 would work (or maybe wmv, depending upon specs of your player)
The reason HD is not being detected is because it is in NTFS format while car players can only accept FAT32 format. Reformat the HD in FAT32 and the player will detect and read the HD
This is the solution
it happened with my 8GB FlashDrive i had to format it with NTFS to carry 7GB File afterwards my Player wuldnt read anything from it
ok, guys. I will reformat to FAT32 and copy few mp3 files on it. I will post my results later today. Thanks again...
well the format compatibility is totally dependent on the head unitmine , for instance, takes everything (MP3/WMA/AAC/WAV/MPEG1/MPEG2/MPEG4/WMV/H.264/JPEG) except for the .FLAC and .APE but MP3 and WMA are pretty much standard in headunits these days
@DrShaggy
Sir any player will play WAV files off an audio CD but are you sure you HU will play WAV files off a hard disk/usb player?
Yep, there are certain HU's which play WAV files off a hard disk/usb.My Pioneer 7150UB plays WAV off my USB drive!
btw I was looking for a HU which could play off FLAC files, does anybody know about any?
@Mani1: yes usman bhai, mine does, off the USB, off the SD, Off the HDD, tested and verified!
@Samialvi: i havent come across any locally available head unit that plays FLAC off the shelf ....
sir thats a revelation. Its a shame that neither 4150dvd nor 4250dvd support WAV playback off a HD or maybe I am doing something wrong
may be their newer models will have WAV playback
or even better, FLAC support
for the time being, i have found an effective work around for CD-less lossless playbackie
FLAC----->Apple Lossless------>Ipod/iphone------>Lossless playback
sir flac and wav are the same thing. Flac is just a compressed form of WAV for those who are short on space. Since your HU supports WAV playback off HD you dont need to go through the cumersome process of multiple conversions in itunes. A simple conversion from FLAC to WAV (takes 2-3 seconds using Xilisoft) and copy/paste onto the HD is all you need.
However for me, your option looks yummy (wont have to burn CDs). Will try it out. Thanks!
the only reason i am sticking with FLAC/Apple lossless instead of WAV is the tagging
yep tagging is a real issue on wav. have you tried apple lossless on any pioneer dvd unit?
no usman bhai, just on my kenwoodbut i have experienced better ipod response from pioneer, so i expect it to work even better on pioneer, kenwood is a tad laggy
