The ARIA has a 2200cc VTT DICOR(Direct Injection Common Rail) diesel engine packing quite a punch and is expected to cost between RS8-11lacs (based on equipment levels) in the domestic market. Cars are being shipped to dealers nationwide now so i will be checking it out at a local dealer soon.

This is a holiday week in this state(TN/ Chennai) due to the harvest festival and today/tomorrow are holidays for most establishments so i have free time and ergo more postings!

Next on the show, Hyundai. Hyundai is 'big' in India, almost 400,000 cars produced in 2009 for both domestic market and exports and Hyundai's 2nd largest car plant in the world is located in Chennai. One would think the display would match?!. Maybe, next time.

Tata Aria: Except the SUV, the coupe and Hatch are pretty good! How's the engine performance nick?! And is there any exchange of Design between Jag/LR with Tata Motors been reported?

All TATA Motors' display cars except the ARIA are based on existing street models including the Indica Vista. The engine in the ARIA is the proven mill from the Safari SUV which is excellent. One of my friend's in Delhi owns a Safari and i was mighty impressed with the highway performance of the engine. We drove in the Safari to see the Taj Mahal(roadtrip pics coming soon!). The Venture is the best new product from TATA, IMO, as it is based on the Ace pickup platform and is highly affordable at RS2.5lacs and the engine is a brilliant piece of engineering, based on 2-cylinders and can carry upto 1-ton load!. The Jag/LR acquisition has resulted in a TATA design studio based in the UK where the ARIA was conceived, so expect more pleasing designs in the future!.I hope so.

BMW has overtaken Mercedes in India sales-wise, they have a full fledged car plant in Chennai assembling the 3 and 5 series car with local content and as ever their participation in motor shows is dull and uninspiring. This year's the same as the last 2008 Expo. BMW(India) throws a good bash at new car launches throughout the country and i'm surprised that a big Auto Expo gets a cursory presence. The X1 was unveiled for the Indian market at this show. Indian car buyers will have to wait a few months for the new 5-series, which will be assembled locally.Just as i forgot about the City at the Honda display and i didn't bother to photo the X5 , which was behind the X6 at the Auto Show.
