2018 BMW 3 Series : Road to 500 Horsepower

Considering how much I have taken care of the car... and how much it has taken care of me too.

I haven't really done much add ons for detailing and paint .. just the bi weekly clay bar and hand wash plus black paint special detailing products from turtle wax and Maguire's.... all those only preserve the paint on the car.

I finally took a long overdue step in the right direction. I got the car booked in for PPF on the headlights, door pillars and inside the door handles (high touch and high wear and tear areas). I must say the ppf film makes the headlights look brand spanking new. what a difference it makes! beyond pleased with it.

Slowly but surely I will get the car paint corrected aswell. I am not a believer in the ceramic coat stuf. so probably going to go in the direction of correction then cleaning by hand bi weekly. Maybe ppf on the front bar alone to go with the headlights.

In terms of other stuff for visual, I am thinking of getting side skirt extensions in plain black or fake cf. there is a set available for a decent price that is a copy of the one offered by the dealership as an add on to the m sport package cars back in the day. This is on my shortlist.. maybe some items for the interior too. will update what I do with this.

Probably best to go the route of plain black fake cf never looks how the photos say and will sunfade very quickly. Hot take the front splitter could look good in gloss black too

I agree with that, I am probably going for the plain black.

The front splitter I am unsure May leave it for now however later on will see what I do, a flying metal disk of some sort on the highway put a small crack in the front of the splitter... very sad but it is what it is. that broke my heart.

Any how I am going to go down that route in the depths of winter when I cant do much else. I acquired the fuel pump for now so some extra power is forthcoming !!!!

Just for reference and in case anyone is interested in the future. Two ways to know for sure if the pump is TU or not.

1) the normal non tu pump has a dimple in the top. The top part is basically bulged inwards.
2) the TU pump is the opposite of above, it has a dome shape on the top. i.e bulged outwards. other thing is the part number: 13518631642 bmw P/N and Bosch part number is . It is the same pump as fitted to M340i, new gen b48 in mini cooper s LCI, g20 330i. g30 530i and many more including some kia/hyundais as well iirc. If you get the pump , u have to rotate the connector (recommended) to reach or u have to get a harness extension to make it fit. it is a doable DIY but not for faint of heart and fairly involved to do it right.

Yeah as far as my knowledge goes stage 2+ and up you need to get the upgraded tu pump. big power coming!

So here we go with the install:
0.5) disconnect battery in trunk and remember to leave trunk open.
1) First step remove the plastic trays held in with a plastic 10mm half a turn each,
2) Then the strut brace two 22mm in the center plus E12 inv Torx from on top of the shock towers,
3) Then undo the 10 or so 10mms from the plastic undertray under the strut brace,
4) Remove the plastic cover and insulation from engine as well as rubber grommets and mouldings hanging in your way.
5) Recommend using some ratcheting or crows feet to loosen and remove the fuel hardlines from the injectors and the fuel pump, relieve fuel pressure by loosening the line first and then open it after fully drained. Use rags and shop towels to ensure no fuel gets on any important components and to avoid a fire risk.
6) Remove the connector from the factory fuel pump and the two torx T30's holding in the fuel pump. (recommend doing two turns each before alternating to remove it without damaging it).
7) Pretty much follow the reverse process, take special care for the new pump to seat it properly and do two/three turns each side alternating between the two torx to ensure a good seal.
8) After reconnecting the battery, turn ignition on and off (to accessory) without starting the car to prime and lubricate the fuel pump (it runs off oil pressure) and after that hop out of the car and check for fuel or oil leaks. UV light can be helpful here.
9) and voila you are done! +30% or something fueling!

stage 3 the next step?

Big turbo and Single Mass flywheel and clutch upgrade would make a nice Stage 3, However I gotta say I am very happy with the car as it is right now. TU pump and Stage 2+ are proven to make upto:
460 WHP with the off the shelf bootmod3 tune on E50
440 WHP on E30. (Both E tunes however max out the turbo and make too much torque, for the manual trans cars at least.
420 WHP on 93 octane Stage 2+ with hub dynos.

As I am running 93, I am assuming its making around that. (essentially 20 whp more than stock fuel pump stage 2) ....
and with that I would say the power goals of this car has been (conservatively achieved) ... with a conservative 20% loss for AWD drivetrain we should be over 500 crank...

I have a kill: a '23 tesla model 3 dual motor kill ^ 70-2XX Roll........ (no acc boost) about 3 car length. 3rd and 4th gear.

Aside from the pump, tbh I have not done much to the car. I am also driving it much less in winter this year.

This winter,me and 3 of my close friends decided to do a project car, So we are working on a big turbo on a '16 Audi A3 Quattro... Just like the one I owned few years ago.

We are going for a sleeper drag/daily combo build, Haldex Controller, Big Turbo, Big brakes. Badged down to A3 TDI lool.
its on going and keeping my hands full. I did not do a thread for it however since it is 60% repeat of the old project I did. Aiming for close to 400 wheel horsepower on that car...
