Thats a common misconception people have about MTs. The only darwback they have that on tarmac the treads catch air and making a humming noise. A good enough sound system keeps that away too.
I have my work-horse running on rather simple MTs The desi General ones for a long time. I didnt like the sound of them on the highway so I put on desert dwelers, the short rides were fun, but on a hot summer day on the highway 2 burst one after the other. Since then we have gone back to General Tyre.

Get cheap steel rims from bilal gunj or anyplace and have these fitted. I'm sure you have man power & storage for switch-overs.

Agree, but don't agree. MTs are made of a softer compound rubber. Softer Compound=More comfortable ride=faster wear and tear.
