The seals can be easily replaced, just remove the rack ends and replace them - the reason they leak is that mechanics try to lever it out with a screwdriver which scratches the rack. The correct technique is to use two screws and screw them into the seal body and pull out the seal very gently. When putting it back in the seal spring cavity is filled with vaseline to prevent the spring from popping out on installation.
When proper mechanics rebuild the rack they remove the valve body first then the rack then the seals - install in reverse.
@ sinner - the electrohydraulic pump is mounted to the body on its own bracket which has rubber shoes to isolate humming, its connected like a rack is connected except that the rack has a motion sensor on it. It switches the motor on and off via the little brain box. That little brain box also has speed signal to eliminate assist at high speed.
