Just did some window shopping at Toyota Islamabad Motors which was full of GLi. The seats were very comfy, interior was good and felt premium (though it was not). Steering and everything else felt okay. Boot was very spacious. Rear floor was "Almost" flat but not truly flat as in the case of Civic. Rest new is new. I'm sure the same would be the case if i checked up Honda Civic. Man this is increasingly becoming agonizing.

Thanks Khurram for the input. So that means there are more votes for the Civic. By the way a close source of mine in Honda Sales claimed that there are no chances of a facelift in 2015, however, priority is going to new City this year. Don't really know how much of this is true but saving is a big concern for me being salaried.

Sir you can see my GLi AT thread for a first hand review of the car, and yes it is pretty much unbiased. Every car has its pros and cons but there is nothing like 1.3 GLi AT is "under-powered" or "sluggish" or as some say "it can barely move", these are all baseless rumors coming from people who have not even driven this car once.

While I respect your opinion yet knowing myself well, I dont want to get stuck psychologically over downgrading even if that is not the case. To be on the safe side, the 1.6 Altis A/T may still seem a viable choice but again, dont know about its engine tech. I need something that can move 17" wheels/tyres and my family while being lowered and not drag itself.

Sir no problem about that, after driving something like the 8th Gen Civic it is almost impossible to think about getting a GLi AT, yes Altis 1.6 is a good option but the 4 speed auto tranny kills the fun in that. I just wanted to clear any misconceptions that people are creating here, the car is in family use and Alhamdulillah performing very well the purpose it is built for

Sir, I'm not at all a Formula 1 person. But its just those itchy times when you need to slam the pedal to the metal. Also when you are confronted with a stupid guy who is just begging to be left in the dust. Oh c'mon.....you EXACTLY know what I'm talking about.
Your input holds great value in this decision making. Its just that I dont want to bogged down due to lack of power when my entire family is sitting with me in the car. I will have to tweak the GLi later like 17" wheels, slight lowering, audio controls on steering wheel, Sat Nav etc. I'm not a fan of slapping body kit on a 1.3 A/T and adding further weight, but lets see.

I know what you're talking about. Exactly. Though the thing is, there is a very small nunber of cars on the roads which can actually use the term "smoke" against the 8th Gen civic. So I can guess quite clearly what you've been upto all these days with your 8th gen.

However, keeping all that in view, I don't think 1.6L altis is a bad option in anyway. Even the GLi won't bog down with all the goodies you've listed, but on the contrary, it won't pack that power punch either. It can easily cruise at 140kph with 5 persons on board, but the time taken to hit 140 will definitely be different. As long as all this doesn't matter much, go for the gli you have the green signal.

But if you can spare the cash, and don't have to try TOO hard to get hands on the 1.8 CVTi, its the best choice you can make these days. Its a market hit, its good value for money, it has all the power you need, it has got the best comfort PKDMs have to offer.

If I had that kinda cash, I would have quietly bought the Grande CVT-i but I really don't. I'm also considering 9th Gen Civic I-VTEC Prosmatec (Hard Top). But it's seen almost 2.5 years of action on our roads, a facelift MAY just be somewhere around the corner. I could live with almost anything less the OOMPH factor. I know the equation is pretty simple "Pay more and get more" but the ifs and butts are really screwing with my mind.

That ivtec prosmatec is going to cost you almost as much as the cruisetronic cvti. That too, I would be used. Try your luck, if you can hunt down a clean used ivtec prosmatec or a CVTi altis with around 10-15k on the ODO, both are going to give you nearly the same dent in the pocket. New option in that kind of cash is altis 1.6L.

Lolz. I was just browsing through all the Mark X posted in the used cars sale section. Not bad but it won't be a newer car after all. You see it's not just about the horsepower alone, I have to keep a track of expenses being a family guy too. Plus most of us like to keep on adding to the ride one way or the other. In that scenario I don't know where the Mark X will lead me to?

Will you go for it? Assume she is to stay with you for as long as viper has been there (4 years I think?)... Will you be able to carry out all the periodic maintenance? The fuel costs? Spare parts? God forbid in case of a breakdown, you know what it would cost to get it up and running.

Same is the case with mark x. No wonders it's a great machine to own, no parallel. But for one, its nearly impossible to find a clean one. Secondly, spares, maintenance, fuel, resale, reliability.... everything matters in this case. I won't even think of going for a mark X when my budget is limited to this extent and I am going to have it as the only car to fill my family in and travel long routes. Just not my thing. I want a machine that has warranty, no spare part issue, reliability and most importantly, the new car smell.

P.S: I forgot to mention previously, there is absolutely NO chance for civic to get a facelift. Not this generation at least. 10th gen is expected in 2017 and I think... lol... I would rather buy something than nothing... kehtay hain na.. live it abhi. 2017 kis ne dekha hai, kal khel main ham hon na hon, gardish main taaray rahen ge sadaa.

Pristine mark x will set you back as less as 2.8 million and as much as 3.4 million. Depends upon the condition.

Great piece of advice. The best so far. So that leaves me dangling between 11th Gen Corolla and 9 Gen Civic

If you choose the Corolla, the only sensible variant is the 1.8 Altis Grande (CVT-i or Manual), if not, then any variant of the Civic will make you happy.
