today i started my civic and when i pressed accelerator, white smoke was coming out of silencer. it kept coming out for couple of minutes and when i kept driving it, smoke vanished.

any thing to be worried about? it happened 2 weeks ago as well. and after that it happened today. i have liana 2009 as well and it never happened with it. 67k done on meter, petrol driven.

civic is 84k done, petrol driven 2011 vti oriel.

please help

Are u sure it is smoke ? Or steam ?

seems to be smoke to me. white but low amount of smoke which gets disappeared when car's engine gets hotter.

how to differentiate if it is smoke or steam?

i does not happen every day. last time it happened two weeks ago. I parked my car in the night at around 11 pm and the next day at around 9 am when i started it, smoke/steam came out of the silencer (white) which got disappeared when i kept pressing the race.

and it now happened today. my car was grounded since wednesday. and when i started it today, same thing happened.

Steam is water vapors which disappears very quickly in air while if it is smoke it will stay in air for some time. Plus smoke will have smell and will be dry.

i just noticed it sitting on my driving seat. could not examine it thoroughly. it comes out for few seconds and disappears if i continue driving my car.

what if it is smoke and coming out of silence on car's startup? not every time but sometimes.

Looks like these days people are not much active on pakwheels.
I am not expert but white smoke could be due to head gasket, the very first thing coming to my mind. Also, does your radiator water level decreases ?
However, start the car in the morning and observe the smoke, similarly start the car during day time and see if it comes out then too. If not then it must be steam due to cold weather these days.

i just checked the water and oil level and it is accurate. i, two weeks ago, got its oil changed along with oil filter and air filter.

it happened today's morning at around 8 am and i came office at around 9 and parked it here at my office. just now at 01 pm i again started the car and no smoke was there. i raced it but no smoke came out.

i got it checked with the mechanic as well just now and he said it happens with the cars in winter. He further said nothing to worry about.

but my liana never did that even in winters..

and i also please advise me which coolant should i use it for my civic. currently it has water not coolant i have observed.

It's better to get it replaced from the 3S Honda. However, if you want to save some bucks, the best solution is Caltex's Havoline® Xtended Life Antifreeze/Coolant.

probably you got fake oil which is causing metal parts to rub against each other in cold start causing white smoke.

get it changed.

Anybody here knows what should be the normal working coolant temperature ? I checked through obd 2 and I remember it was 92 degree Celsius.

3s honda is putting in honda type 1 coolant which is actually not suggested by honda for 8th gen aluminium radiator.

honda type 2 coolant (Ethylene glycol based) should be poured in aluminium radiators.

i used toyota long life Coolant (Ethylene glycol based) since it was pre mixed 4 litre pack was available.

Im sorry to say but youre just being paranoid sir.
These are water vapors that cars emit in winters. It totally depends on the type of weather and humidity levels.

you may be right. but in same weather and humidity my Liana never does that. and different opinion made me a bit confused.

Maybe its running rich. Cars that run rich do not emit this steam (personal experience).

Ok, I faced a slight problem second time in one week's time. I started car in the morning and a sound came from hood after engine had started. Sound was like a screeching sound, just game for a second.
Today it happened again and this time I noticed that it came for self. Now I had immediately left the key when car started and it is like how i start car every time, looks to me like self was engaged for a second even after car was started. Any idea on this ? do i need to get the self serviced, what is the location of it ?

i parked my liana on thursday night at around 11 PM and then it remained parked till Monday's morning. Even after 3 days and four nights when i started it on Monday, no smoke and nothing. My father has a Gli and he occasionally uses it. but Gli never behaved like that. so this is what bothering me. else many people told me that it is due to winter season. but winter season is only affecting civic

It happened to me as well....with my 09 Civic in may I bought and in Dec noticed white smoke...trust me I was running around with mecahnics... I was near to faint to belive that engine has gone....some said smoke some said steam...even left my car overnight in Lahore dealership to show Honda Engineer....very painful days....in the end turned out to be stream.....Alas! This clearily shows how little I know about cars engine.....secondly same episode with strange noise when I started my car in cold state there was utensils like sound from engine...same leaving car to dealership story...in the end no body figured out what was that...one top expert suggested that cluch brakes as gone...change that...which I did not...after that drove car 6 years ....went even with that state to Pak China Border in Khungrab...and my Civic went like flying horse...at last sold in Aug 2016 in same state and reason was to buy Turbo X....conclusion....wait to fault come in front completely....some time symptoms are directing toward false indication....
