Yes that workshop is still there. They charge Rs.1000 for Catcon cleaning. It alone doesn't effect much on driving performance. Only if you feel there's a smell in your exhaust then get it done or if your car mileage is at a multiple of 40000 kms

Bro once again please don't judge your average by dots of the digital fuel guage. The car's fuel guage may have a different calibration and counting your dots for each number of liters is not at all a rule.
I can make the dots disappear at even 0 km in trip meter if i leave it started idle. Every time you fill up your drive variates. Means you may be driving with more idling or more brakes or more rush, stop and go or a harder foot at some instance and may be a lighter foot in the next hour.
The only way is to fill up, drive, exhaust tank, fill up again and then note how many liters you consumed.
Sometimes my first dot drops at 50, sometimes 30 and at times on the highway it even went to 75. A fuel guage in cars is for an approximate idea, else it would be a fuel computer not a guage.
So bhai sahab save yourself from this agony of counting dots and work the old school method please. That will release or rebuild your tension

Varies from 12 to 1450...a safe buying price for a 8 model will be around 12 and for 10 it will be around 1375

Do keep in mind selling a non oriel wont be easy...i would recommend oriel prosmetic 10 model in the range of around 1450 that will be in an excellent condition

To be honest there is nothing much specific, specially since ure buying it in UAE (which im sure have even better quality than Atlas Pakistan) and that too a 2011+ model. The problems were there in 2006-2008 model for faulty Power steering pipe till 2008 & Power window switch. The later ones had an engine mount issue. Both these issues were mostly catered by Atlas who did free of cost replacement even for cars without warranty.
Remaining problems are totally dependent on maintainence, for cars not properly maintained according to schedule.
These are usually related to every 40000km check ups and problems occurring may be linked together such as: throttle body service, tune up, cleaning of catcon and replacement of fuel filter etc. All these done and it gets new. If not done these result in slower acceleration response added with poor fuel economy. ATF is also to be changed every 40K. Iridium plugs at 100K but its even better to do it early if around 80K. The ignition self starter also needs service. Bearings last 100-125K. In local Atlas cars a few also came up with AC compressor issue. Defects are not there in 8th Gens apart from few mentioned unless its an abused car. Have been keeping them since 2006, replaced it with 2008 which was replaced with 2009 (now done 124000-kms on odo) and added with another one in 2011 (54000-kms) of which the last two I don't plan to sell yet for another few years (God Willing) since it will be hard to find these legends again as second hand.
All what i have said is as per my experience with 8th Gens. Don't know what other fellows have experienced.
My 9th gen on the other hand just driven 25000-kms has already gone through axle replacements twice and brake assembly once (both under warranty) and last week i had to claim my AC blower fan system too as it has started making noises.
Nutshell: if ure getting a Honda (Al-Futtaim) certified car that is obviously properly mainatained so nothing much to worry about in my opinion.

I ve heard a lot about this faulty power steering pipe. i remember HONDA guys issuing a recall and calling it an "upgrade" instead. i am hoping Honda UAE also fixed these issues if there were any here.

as for maintainience, thats not an issue. throttle body plugs filters etc are easy fix. what about the cat converter btw? remember that we have high octane fuel here so may be CATS get clogged quicker may be? how diagnose a problem with CAT while test driving a car? yes i will prefer to buy the car from Al futtaim but cant be sure if they ll have one to my liking or not so may be will buy from outside. but will not sacrifice on upper spec and excellent condition InshaALLAH.

Some from my side, Check for engine mounting they are usually to be replaced, Also if the car ac trips down while running you got condensor problem, when you buy your car use both keys to start it, I have faced an immobilizer problem as well which is bit rare, about suspension i think its pretty much like normal. This car also had steering pump and pipe problems. Though issues aside, Its a treat to drive.

Thank you for the suggestion. Engine mounts are surely something to be checked. I believe the mounts in civic are also oil filled like my idsi's ones?

The steering on 8th gen is slightly heavier than 9th gen. Hydraulic (8th) vs Eps (9th). But it's heavier on the positive side. I personally like that as it feels like ure in control, acting and responsing under the laws of physics & not artificial like the one in 9th which is light enough that it doesn't feel that much on hand as 8th. Yes the steering despite being slighted heavier feels awesome. The heaviness is only what a hydraulic PS should have at minimum.
About the catcon: if all other things are fine it won't be much noticeable unless you can smell a different sort of burning from the exhaust, the car feels low on power and heavy on fuel consumption. It's better to get it cleaned anyway if ure doubtful. Foolproof way is to use a tester guage OR hook it up with the system and monitor through on screen diagnosis via OBD both of which workshops equipped can do.
As far as the 9th gen is concerned, it's not just mine but a lot of my friends cars too going through similar issues. Not all but about 10-15%. The car and its technical details itself shows Honda didn't put too much effort this time after 8th gen which i guess they have applied to quality as well maybe. About the same underneath as the 8th gen more or less but bigger wheel arches and a higher clearance added with overall higher body shell too the results are lack in stability in comparison. Control effected by EPS too in my opinion. I guess that is why the 10th gen is launching this fall 2015 at the other side of globe. A change of model within 4 years. Also that means UAE too since they are mostly the first ones to get all models. Remember seeing production 9th gen for the first time at Dubai in November 2011

Yes i mentioned the same thing above...non oriels sale the least then an oriel manual gets a good price but when a buyer is looking for a manual specially and for oriel prosmetic they are really easy to sale specially if in the best condition

Lesser resale of non-oriel models is a valid concern, but I dont see spending more for just the sun roof. I am not a huge fan of the fog lights too, TBH I dont even know why people are crazy about them.

The ads I have seen so far on pakwheels most of the non-oriel models have custom alloy wheels and fog lights installed. So there is a chance that I get those goodies in a non-oriel version too.

Not sure about the current model but Honda's Navigation system in 8th gen was a fraud. It could not find any location, the multimedia system was horrible. I spent about 60-70k on it and then just used it for reverse parking.

But anyway, dont mind me. These are just my concerns; every individual has his own likes and dislikes.

Great!! that means i ll love the steering!! New civic's steering feels like using a laptop they could have installed left right keys instead like a keyboard, because thats how much feel it communicates compared to good steerings. I drove a 320i on a hilly road last month. On the way back did the same on a 9th gen and i was like what the hell!! anyways, thats sorted out then.

Catcon issue i believe can be diagnosed before buying a car. since cars are tested for a lot of things including emission readings before the ownership is transfered, i can get the readings from the device and compare it to the standard civic 8th gen readings (which hopefully i ll find somewhere on the internet) i also am planning to get an OBDII reader, the proper one. not that cheap bluetooth one.

As for 9th gen, i really am disappointed to hear that!! Until the past month of two, i used to think its a really gud car in all aspects and is certainly better then 8th gen. I stand corrected! I hope then 10th gen is not a disappointment. Lets see if turbocharging gets mainstream with the next civic. If it does, it would be nice but then civics might become extinct from Pakistan because desi mechanics would tell people that its a "fail gaddi". anyways, lets see where this thing goes... thanks again for your input (Y)

Retract mirrors are easily available, Get airbags and dash from bilal gunj out of hybrid, I even got an exchange offer

Oriel ka lahore mai koiiiiiiii faida nai.

It is just a cost we bare because we want everything other than the sunroof by that i mean alloys n fogs n retractables and a fender without a hole for the indicator.

When buying an 8th gen.

Look for:
1. service history if the owner has gotten 40,000km periodic maintenance. it includes: tapped tune, injector cleaning(if required), oil mount, fuel filter, tranny oil, break shoes(if required).
2. oil mounting
3. check shock mounts. you can check em by removing part of the plastic infront of the windscreen. there are two small windows which need to be removed to see the mounts. shock mounts do get cracks.
put the car on a lift and check if it has bearing issues. bearing issue means the whole hub should be changed.
4. how was the engine oil changed and which oil did the owner use.
5. I would not buy an 8th gen without a service history.
6. take it out for a test drive and feel the car. i mean really feel any vibration or sounds.

8th gen is a beauty. it is a very good car. i think it should be ugraded with a backup camera, steering wheel with cruise control, audio controls and a climate control unit.
