The rest of the world DOES replace that seal. The compressor is only replaced when its truly worn out or damaged, there are proper tests for determining a compressors efficiency.
another similar example is diesel injector nozzles, you determine their working by testing it on a test bench, if faulty the nozzle tips are replaced - The manufacturer does sell the tips and also a complete rebuilt unit - They dont fully rely on just selling rebuilts - there market will quickly close.
This guy is saying that no-one knows the life of their compressors (including themselves I think) - hence the decision not to sell field service parts.
