the reservoir bottle is an expansion tank and the only reason for the engine to suck it dry is that its not filled up correctly. I have only seen one brand new car that did that - it was a cultus carby and apparently it was "repaired" at the showroom before delivery. They forgot to bleed it and it was short about a litre of coolant.
when you talk on manufacturer level faults it should not be vague like - coolant tank would be dry etc but more like design faults.
e.g. the toyota 2az-fe engine I recently repaired has a design fault in the early engines and it causes the head bolt threads in the intake manifold side of block to strip when it cycles through thermal changes in its life.
