Having a persistent issue with my 03 CL9. We have had the car for 12 years now and for past 1 year, an amber light is on the cluster saying 'smart'. We didn't get any smart card with the car and have been using the regular key remote for unlocking and starting car.
Once this light came on 3 years ago and I just replaced the cell in the key and it went away. Now its been on for a year and I have changed the cell 4 times and its refusing to go away. Did the car originally come with a smart card and it was 'lost' during the auction or is there some other issue here?
If it did come with smart car, how can one tell the car is equipped with this feature? The ignition key hole in steering box does have a knob like shape in which we insert key, but i always figured its for ease of rotating the key when starting the car. Is that for the keyless start entry? Can I get a smart key made for this car now and from where?
Had this car for 12 years and just today after reading your post did i realize that maybe it may have come with a smart card feature. Or maybe not and this 'smart' light is some other issue with the remote key.
Any help would be appreciated. As you can see in the pic, the door handle has a button on it which we have never used and doesnt' really do anything when pushed
