I would like to encourage members here to seek free consult or guidance on which spark plugs and/or plug wire sets are most suited for your particular needs. Also, would like to highlight a couple of things here:
So many young enthusiasts are wasting their precious money on Iridum / Platinum Plugs and Splitfire Plugs and plugwires, when in fact these would not increase the performance of their 'normal' and 'unmodified' vehicles in any manner whatsoever. The reason why I posted some basic information about spark plugs at the beginning of this post was infact meant to educate everyone about the reality and upto what extent do these spark plugs increase the performance of your vehicle. The source of this information was NGK's own official website.
Whenever a customer, especially young dare devils come to us for buying spark plugs, we always ask them the details of their vehicle and if we feel that the customer is making a mistake and wasting his money, we always advise him not to do so even if it is to our own disadvantage and loss.
Like the brother above, who installed iridum plugs in his Honda Civic 95, but could not enjoy the value for his precious money spent. Whereas, he could have had a much better return, had he installed simple four point plugs (preferably lucas). Always ask a person who 'knows' the technicalities of spark plugs and only then go and spend your (or your parent's) hard earned money.
For plug wires, we see that people are wasting thousands of rupees to buy Splitfire and other plug wires for unmodified and stock vehicles. Total wastage. Go for silicon plug wire (preferably American) altered by the seller for your vehicles wire size requirements. A typical Silicon Plug Wire set with good quality boots and terminals lasts four to five times longer than other Japanese normal wires.
I am going to reproduce extracts below about plug wires which I took from NGK's official website:
PLUG WIRES
Good plug wires are just as important to ignition performance as the spark plugs. The wires carry high voltage from the ignition coil to the spark plugs. Each wire has a conductive core surrounded by a layer of insulation. The insulation may be surrounded by additional reinforcement such as braided fiberglass and a protective outer covering or jacket. At both ends of the wire are terminals which connect to the spark plug and distributor cap (or coil pack in distributorless ignition systems). Each end also has a boot to keep out moisture and dirt. Spark plug boots are usually molded silicone rubber, but on many import applications are phenolic or metal tubes.
The type of insulation used in a plug wire is also important. spancolor: #990000""Premium wire sets typically use silicone or EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) insulation which offers higher temperature resistance than Hypalon or other materials. Some premium wire sets also have a protective outer covering of EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate). EVA provides thermal protection to over 400 degrees and has a tensile strength 200 percent higher than silicone.
So, unless you have modified your engine.... (and by modifying, I mean the complete works) do not waste your money on unnecessary performance products.
Hope this helps.
