When somebody posts something on a forum that he has recently bought, since this being a public forum, anyone with the relevant knowledge should be able to critisize the item BUT in a productive manner. Which i see nowhere in any comments here. So i think if there is a debate to be made, go to that thread "CAR AUDIO FOR NOOBS" and debate all you people want.

Dr Saab, sir this thing is a beauty in its ownself, its proud, its aware of what it can deliver and thus plays hard to get.. lolz.
I haven't been blessed to hear it perform as of yet, but these remarks come from reading the detailed reviews everywhere on net, as i was doing some research on the same processor few days back.
I hope this will satisfy all your urges to the deepest core

How do "you" equalize your car audio setup. What is "your golden way" for equing, what tracks do u use. i mean i want to know the whole procedure, briefly...!

Sorry to say maybe your installer with 15 years experience has gone insane or maybe he is biased.

Here is a link from a website which rates stuff including their own expert's reviews, sales pattern and end users feed back. In all different catagories you will see Focal in the list.

I think you need to change your installer or atleast show the installer this link to shut him up.

Also Focal has been winning many awards every year, Try Australian Incar Awards.

But i guess your installer knows more than the professionals reviewers.

Sir it is quite understandable, how can a shop / installer recommend something when they dont have something and never tried it. Obviously they will recommend something which they have and sell, no point in recommending something they dont have, no profit in that. Levin says he has a lot more audio experience than anyone here still he hasnt listened to focals, so why is it a surprise that an installer with 15yrs of "experience" hasnt heard about them.

The recording technology has advanced immensely as the time has moved on, with exceptional studio recorded material surfacing every now and then. I prefer to listen to DVD-Audio, do give it a try, you will be blown away with the quality it offers over a conventional CD.

And ah yes, the cds 700. I remember you were selling it here for a 100Ks. Well I was interested in it and it looked good but the interest was short lived till i saw the reviews stating that there were much better alternatives in this price and had issues with bass and a poor soundstage resolution, and that the pure direct was more like a gimmick which offered little to no improvment in sound. A quote:
"The ‘Pure Direct' button on the front shuts down the player's digital audio output and turns off the display.

Yamaha claims this feature allows the player to output the highest sound quality possible, and we did hear a slight improvement in the smoothness of the treble – but not enough to change our star rating.

Yamaha has obviously gone to great lengths to make the CD-S700 look the part, but we'd be willing to sacrifice some of the aesthetic niceties for greater sound quality."

How do you know that 'pure direct' or flat on your Head unit or receiver is giving out a flat sound/pure direct sound? There are many variables involved such as room acoustics, the install, cables, speakers, amplifier etc. all which ensure that the end product i.e. sound is not flat/pure direct. This is where the DSP and RTA comes into play. RTA listens to the end product i.e. sound coming out of the speakers and then lets you fine tune it via a DSP to achieve that flat/pure direct sound. If a flat/pure direct sound was possible only with a Head Unit/Receiver then RTA and DSP wouldn't have been invented

mani bhai he is totally ignoring the fact that the room acoustics or listening space acoustics are very very important (if not the most important) factor. His setup wouldnt sound the same at all places. Will be different outdoors, will be different in a small room, will be different in a hall etc etc and each of these examples will require eq to correct for the changes brought by the listening space.

Sir, thats why the rooms are treated with different materials and of different shapes to minimize the deterioration of sound due to poor environment. Even when you visit a cinema, the roof is treated with pyramid shape material to reflect sound in such a way that it does not deteriorate the sound reproduction, the walls are treated with fabric like materials so that the unwanted sound is absorbed.

Also we know what "anechoic chambers" are and what purpose they serve, but i still dont understand whats all the debate about.

if you want to play with dsp, donest mean all need a dsp as a must item

i didnt like 7 channnel sound that was produced by 5.1 DolbyDigital. the thing is i dont like half the things people buy. thats me, you know,

dsp1 from yamaha back in 1987, you had to go inside the special room to listen to, with 6 speakers firing ard you. i realized the only track that played best on it, was "in the air". it made a mess of lot of tracks, either we didnt know how to use it, or studio recording was far superior than noobs messing with dsp.

then dsp got simpler to use, last few models i tried in recent years were pre set already to lot of modes from factory.
another crazy dsp i came across the sony elite 1000 esd, with reverbs to 2.5 sec and dynamic range expanders/compressors was a crazy dsp. instead of watching a movie you end up fiddling with knobs during the whole show.

then my time with dsp was over,

. enjoy the knobs, no one is annonyed by you enjoying sound "quality sound:)"

sir with due respect to the id LEVIN, i am here to help anyone who seeks it. it was infact you who claimed to have been auditioning systems since 1975... i was born in 1978 so that makes ur experience more than my age. also at one point u say that we should trust our ears and not listen to forums and people but on the other hand u urself are taking advice from a "15 yr experienced" guy.

to me a dsp that requires constant tweaking is the worst kind. it should only be setup once and then u should forget about it. the auto eq feature in my 8650 does it pretty well. the same feature in ms8 is also setup once and then u forget about it. if u need to set up ur eq for every track u play, either the music u r playing is not recorded properly or the eq/dsp u are using is not up to the mark
