AMG's new 5.5L TT revealed!

What will this performance package that they are talking about be called as?

The performance package is available in on going models as well, it's called P30. But current PP's gets suspension & brakes (CC in new E63) upgardes, alcantara steering, increased top speed limit to 172MPH and CF interior trim, no HP increase.

Since M5 will share the motor with it's siblings then it's safe to assume that F10 M5 will also have a six-speed automatic which is used in X5M and X6M, or better wait for official word?

Rumor-mill is producing everything. Some say improved SMG, some say DCT. But I have reason to believe that DCT will be offered as an option to M5 customers since there is no V10 now.

This is just outrageous. Its a AMG executive saloon car. I know I know how desperate MB is to OWN the BMW 760 F10 but you gotta remove those stickers, roll cage, and bring back all the luxuries in order to compete with it. Oh ..the 760 is not even M unlike you Am-ghay!

BTW is it just me or is AMG starting to make some VERY tasty engines lately?? i think that by the time i can afford one of these cars (used) that i'm going to get alot of value for my money!!

They are not only making better engines but taking Mercedes to whole new level compare to pre W212 and W204 AMG's, where they just had to put their engines in the bay, now they are playing with aero, suspension, brakes etc.

You should seriously look into an E55 W211. They are dirt cheap nowadays. No need to tell you the potential of M113.

if nothing else i'm sure they have fit variable vane turbos to reduce lag and improve the power band (like in the 997 turbo).

BTW has anyone seen the leaked pics of the e-class cabrio? i have to admit it looks ALOT better than the CLk cabrio(H)

It's a 5461 cc to be exact. Call it whatever you want to. Rumor has it that Mercedes is not reverting back to their past names. i.e. "55". Weird.

"Officially" Mercedes has stated the 2010 S63 (6.2L V8) will produce 518 HP, while the uberexpensive S65 (6.0L V12TT) will push 604 HP.

now my question is why make a 5.5L V8TT as well as offer the above engines??? if htey plan on replacing the 6.2 V8 with the 5.5 i think they SHOULD change the name,.. but i think many AMG buyers will not want to associate their high(er) end cars with the lowly (supercharged) 5.4L V8 from the W211 and W220.

do note that MB had alot of history with the 6.3L in the 300SEL (hence the modern 63s) so it is possible the new 5.5L V8TT uses the legendary "560" badge... it's not like i know what i'm talking about,... i'm just saying

The new 5.5-litre, codenamed the M157, replaces the current 6.3-litre (6208cc) naturally aspirated V8 which has been doing duty in cars like the C 63 AMG, the CLS 63 AMG, the E 63 AMG, the S 63 AMG and the CL 63 AMG.

I actually dont agree with this one.. this new engine is not going to replace the old M156 6.2L N/A engine (A different one down the line may in fact do that).. but rather it would be a supplement to AMG's existing range of engines.. And they're going to move on with this philosophy to offer different drivetrains across their model portfolio.. since it was getting a bit boring having the same engine throughout their product range.. So they're going to address that by rolling out new engines that would complement their existing range..

A naturally aspirated version of this engine would make its way into the upcoming C-Class though..

Yes indeed it going to be replaced. Not sure about why MB is still going to call it "63" Here is a line from press release:

The M156 is dead for the cars that will get M157. A smaller 4.6L TT is also in works which will make it's way in smaller cars like C, SLK or maybe E-coupe.
