I was a hardcore android user. I never thought of switching to iPhone again. My last iPhone was 3GS and when I switched over to galaxy s 2 I was literally blown away. And at that moment I said bye bye iPhone.
Since galaxy s 2, I have changed many phones. Tried all android phones from all best oems like HTC one X, One m7, one m8, galaxy s3, s4 , s5, S6 edge, all note series, galaxy nexus, etc
All were great phones no doubt but none of them was perfect. Yes note series was and will be always my top pick but it too had compromises like software lags and glitches and no updates at all. And my last phone, Note 5 had poor quality hardware as well as it's s pen gets stuck inside the phone and awful included headphones. But still I loved it due to its s pen functionality, epic screen and stunning camera.
Now the time came for an upgrade as usual
I had narrowed down options like Note 7 and upcoming google phone but while deciding I thought why shouldn't I give an iPhone a chance this time. Well in the deciding phase Note 7 died it's own death and Google Pixel had nothing exciting to offer ( overpriced and boring hardware plus looks ) now with a heavy heart I had to choose iPhone that too 7 Plus as android phones were all same to me with similar hardware.
Before upgrading to iPhone I was really sceptical about iOS. Hardware wise iPhone 7 plus was already boss but I was scared to try out the restricted iOS.
Still I took the risk and bought the beast.
Okay now I will only cover iOS. Complete review will be coming soon of the phone.
iPhone 7 plus comes with iOS 10 preinstalled. The software itself is really familiar to everyone with home screen offering grid of icons and nothing else. But this is what everybody knows. The real thing is the user experience. I have to say is that this is the smoothest most refined OS I have ever used. Everything is optimised perfectly; from animations to battery timing. I have yet too see when this phone stutters or slows down. And android phones stock or with skins will lag no matter what. I never really was satisfied with performance of any android phone that I have owned.
3D Touch is an amazing feature and now with added widgets it's really useful. I have set everything that I need on the icons and I directly use what I want like my favourite contacts for calls and messaging.
Moreover, the App Store and app quality is fantastic. This is where iOS shines and blows android out of the park. Let alone games, even the facebook and tapatalk app is miles better then android; they are silly smooth with tones of more features. On the other hand android apps with zillion updates still suck, they stutter and chew the hell out of battery. Regarding graphics, the same game on iOS is so detailed then android counterparts and also they get updated instantly. I literally used to curse My internet as the SoundCloud on android never used to buffer songs but since on iOS there never has been a single day where the buffering got stuck. Lastly snapchat on iPhone is just brilliant, it is more smooth, no glitches and has much more filters. All in all android is at least 100 years behind in apps then iOS and also AppStore of iOS has no useless apps like the millions in play store.
Now coming over to stock apps; camera app is fine example of simplicity and functionality. It's the best camera app yes it doesn't have manual controls but the interface is so easy to use. Plus the portrait mode is something splendid ( will discuss it later ) furthermore all other apps are beautifully integrated with iOS, the phone automatically sets my alarm and it knows where and how far my car is standing from me. Lastly I would like to discuss is iMessage and FaceTime, hands down the bestest thing in an iPhone, I love the affects in iMessage while chatting and FaceTime connects instantly.
The keyboard of iOS is epic. I always type accurately even without seeing the phone where as on android, the stock keyboards were huge fail specially touchwiz; they were bad in accuracy and word recognition. Plus the new haptics and sounds integrated in iOS makes the user experience more immersive and addictive. I love how the phone responds while ringing and in general operations.
The most important aspect of an OS is optimisation. And yet again apple takes the lead here. The battery of my phone lasts 2 days with heavy usage. The phone remains on 100% from midnight will 8 am in the morning in standby with everything turned on from wifi to notifications etc.
Where as on android the story was opposite, my note 5 even with everything turned off used to drain at least 10-15% battery.
Now the bad thing in iOS:
I don't like the notification system, the notifications just get cluttered and not integrated together as every notification system is displayed individually.
Maps of iOS are hideous. I hope apple allows google maps again. The maps are not detailed, slow to use and don't navigate properly.
Some weird things like to change wifi I have to go in settings and mobile data and location are not in action center yet again I have to visit settings.
Yes restrictions are there, as for transferring stuff options are limited.
Customisation is also limited as wallpaper is only thing to change.
My verdict is that I will take iOS any day over android now. The fluidity, optimisation, user experience and apps are much important then just customisation. This is coming from a diehard android user who used to hate iOS but now one should not comment until he/she has experienced that thing. I have to give it to Apple for doing things perfectly and following the path of less is better. Whatever apple does is just perfect, they never add useless bloat ware crap and focus on the user experience alone.
PS this is just a glimpse of iPhone 7 Plus. The other side will be covered in hardware. Stay tuned everyone.
teaser: Camera of iPhone 7 Plus is a dream of many other phones now and it is threat to DSLRS as well.
