As you guys must have noticed that I happen to live in Lahore and work in Mianwali(my hometown), so it is very difficult to find time to visit the build I have undertaken. So I apologize for the lack of feedback and pics. Any ways here are a few...



As you can see that the engine is in, but only temporarily(in the language of the mechanic "ABHI KACHA KIA HAI", that means mock up.

Now coming to the work going on the transmission tunnel.

The only issue that I am worried about is that the position of the gear lever will be in an awkward position. I would be lying if I said that I did not anticipate that. But then I think it is the best engine(diesel) you can put in J40. I would have loved to have the shifter in the original position. Laikin saray mazay ek saath leana mushkil hota hai.....

Coming to the radiator. To save a few bucks I opted for a Copper one. This is the biggest radiator we could fit in the given space, or for that matter the available space. I am a bit skeptic about, whether I will be able to fit an air conditioner condenser in front or not lets see..

Sorry SK, your post skipped my eyes. But I am sure by now you must have gone to city sadar road and seen the insanity first hand.
To be honest it doesn't seem that bad but I have my reservations;

Number 1 You can hardly put your finger between the firewall and the engine.

Number 2 I do not like the position of the Gear/Trransfercase shifter sticks. Though it may not seem an issue at all but for me it is.

Number 3 I hate that fact that we had to alter the transmission tunnel, , and now I remember what you ment when we talked last time on phone.

Ideally I would have liked the Stick Shifter where I have put the circle. Any how "Chay cylinder engine chalaanay ka shouk bhi tou tha na"

As you probably know well, I am not a purist by any means and go more towards practicality. I think the engine fitting and gear-box placement should work alright. Was trying to get a pic of the gear lever on my FJ but could not find a clear enough shot except this one below. Its not where you would have liked it to be but somewhere in the middle, and I find it quite convenient. Anyhow, the click clock shifting of this gear-box makes up for any unconventional placement of the lever in my view. As long as the rear driveshaft islong enough, all should be OK in my view.

If I do get the Gear Lever in the position your J40 has, I will be happy. Currently without the seats in I cant say.
I am hoping that it doesnt go further back...

Gear knob should be in the same place only leaning forward not sure if it makes any difference!

But you know why this radiator looks like Junk..........

Because it is from Junk. We have to work on it yet. This will I am sure look a lot better than what it looks now(at least I hope so)

Yes we had the option of going for an aluminum one but for cost reasons we did not.

The project seems to be going way over budget so, I am trying to keep the cost down on things that I can work on later.
The radiator in question is a four core, which comes out of a Daewoo bus, so it shud do its job well. For cosmetic reasons I will change it later.

My opinion would be go for silver color that came in latest Corolla GLI! but with matte black hood & fenders!
